 Faculty Program Coordinator – FIRE SCIENCE

Reporting directly to the Dean of Math, Science, Computer Technology, the Fire Science Coordinator shall be responsible for the Fire Science/Hazardous Materials department:
 
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach a minimum of 15 credit hours with 3 hours of release time for administrative duties.
  • Responsible for advising, enrolling, and processing degree completion of students in the Fire Science program.
  • Ensure safety practices are followed by students and staff.
  • Provide technical guidance to adjuncts and lab assistants in Fire Science and Hazardous Materials department.
  • Develop semester schedules, order text books, and coordinate advisory board meeting and state testing.
  • Responsible for budgeting, writing grants, and procuring needed equipment.
  • Enforcing all rules and regulations, per the college’s guidelines and other enforcement agencies that govern student practices of KCKCC.
  • Responsible for proper documentation of Life Credits, Advanced Standing and Advising for Graduation.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Dean of MSCT.
 
CONSULTING TASKS
Consult with Fire Science Adjuncts in monthly staff meetings and with other campus faculty/staff on division and college wide initiatives.
 
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for supervising fire science lab assistants and departmental adjuncts.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Must know and be able to teach proper and correct techniques in Firefighting.
  • Must have the ability to work with individuals of various backgrounds and abilities.
  • Must understand the philosophy of the urban, open-door community college.
  • Applicant must be  able to lift 100 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Applicant must be willing to work afternoons and evenings. 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Have at least 5 years of experience as a Firefighter/ Hazardous Materials Certified performing the varied duties in the site environment. 
  • Certification in Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and Hazardous Materials Operations required.
  • Applicant must be competent in donning and doffing of SCBA/PPE
  • Applicant must be competent in ladder safety.
  • Applicant must have excellent working knowledge of fire ground operations and ICS
