ACCELERATING OPPORTUNITY-KANSAS (AO-K) PART-TIME INSTRUCTOR

The Accelerating Opportunity- Kansas PT Instructor will be supervised by the Continuing Education and Community Services Director. This position will assist Adult Basic Education students and students who have been designated as AO-K students in the AO-K technical education courses to successful entry into post-secondary education opportunities. This person will then support students as they progress through the AO-K initiative. The JIIST Grant that expires July 30, 2016 funds this position.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Teach basic skills, including  writing, math, and reading, in conjunction with TEC curriculum
  2. Prepare students to advance at least one level using the TABE Assessment System.
  3. Prepare students who do not have a high school diploma to take the GED examination
  4. Meet with CTE instructors before the start of each semester to develop integrated lessons.
  5. Plan day to day integrated instructional activities in collaboration with content instructors.
  6. Collaborate with TEC staff for standardized curriculum development.
  7. Engage in team teaching with content instructor.
  8. Evaluate and monitor student progress.
  9. Participate in staff development activities as offered by the college and Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR).
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the director.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  1. Candidate must have an appreciation of the intent of the AO-K grant to serve students needing basic skills in order to complete certificate programs and progress into pathways toward degree programs
  2. Candidate must understand the urban community college philosophy of the open-door concept
  3. Candidate must be patient, flexible, and able to work with individuals with various backgrounds and abilities
  4. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  1. Bachelors’ Degree in Education, Adult Education, or a related field
  2. Two years of experience working in an adult education or technical education environment.
  3. Two years of experience working with adult basic education students

SALARY:             $16,500.00 (This position is grant funded. It is 20 hours per week for 33 weeks beginning August 3rd)
