FULL-TIME INSTRUCTOR – MACHINE TECHNOLOGY

The Machine Technology Instructor shall be responsible to the Dean of the Academic Workforce Programs. The Instructor is responsible for instruction and training in all areas of machine technology that will prepare the student for entry-level employment in machine technology. The instructor will be responsible for developing student skills, knowledge, and attitudes commensurate to the goals of the program and effectively using materials and equipment to meet goals. The instructor will also complete other related work as required.
 
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
 
  • Utilize a variety of effective and professional teaching techniques and methods, which assist student(s) in attaining the performance objectives of the program and provide leadership qualities to prepare students to be gainfully employable.
  • Specify, select, install, operate, and maintain necessary equipment and/or training modules required to support the specific course(s) being taught within departmental budget restraints.
  • Prepare course syllabi according to KBOR and KCKCC requirements, which address targeted student abilities, specific competencies, textbook requirements, grading/assessment methodology, course scheduling, and/or other items as required. The syllabi should adhere to industry standards that may be recommended by industry and or its advisors.
  • Prepare a program outline that will be distributed to students each semester.
  • Provide regular, timely reports to students of academic performance including current grades in course(s) taught.
  • Accurately and punctually, submit all forms and information needed for attendance and grade reporting.
  • Successfully complete important assessment work.
  • Order and maintain inventory of supplies and materials necessary to present concepts and projects.
  • Maintain and interact with a program advisory committee which will include representatives from related business, industry, unions, professional organizations and other public and/or private agencies providing the same or related training and hold a minimum of two meetings during each school year.
  • Provide a safe working environment and monitor safe working practices performed by students while working within the lab areas. Report all safety hazards or incidents to the appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in marketing activities for the division and/or institution by interfacing with the college’s Public Information Director to provide supporting materials as required for the development of advertising promotions such as brochures, media spots, web pages, posters, etc.
  • Assist in student job placement and follow-up.
  • Maintain and assist in reporting of student placement for state and federal reporting requirements.
  • Participate in professional development and attend classes, workshops, and seminars as needed to operate, run, and maintain equipment.
  • Assist in obtaining and/or maintaining accreditation for programs taught as assigned.
  • Maintain all certifications that may be required to perform, present, and maintain materials according to governing agencies.
  • Meet classes at the listed times and maintain class time according to college policies.
  • Serve on institutional committees as needed.
  • Support college activities.
  • Attend division meetings and other meetings as required by the dean.
  • Teach at other centers or locations if needed.
  • Dismiss classes only with prior approval from the division dean.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Dean of Academic Workforce Programs (TEC) or appropriate administrator.
 
CONSULTING TASKS
 
  • Consult with KCKCC staff about student attendance, behavior, and progress.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Academic Workforce Programs (TEC)
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Supervise students in the class setting.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 
Employees in this position must have the ability to:
  • Understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone.
  • Speak so that others may understand at normal levels and on the telephone.
  • Stand, walk and bend over, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull, and move, lift and/or carry up to ­­­­50 pounds to waist height.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 
  • Knowledge of Machine Work Technology Standards and Regulations.
  • Knowledge of print reading and operating machine repair and maintenance standards.
  • Knowledge of related Math skills necessary for Industry within manufacturing.
  • Successful completion of a national assessment test related to manufacturing machine shop.
  • Must understand and appreciate technical education.
  • Must understand the urban community college philosophy for the open-door concept.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  • Associates Degree in Education or related field preferred
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of work experience in Manufacturing.
  • NIMS Certified in at least one area of credentialing, preferred
  • OSHA 501 & 511 courses to present (CFR 1910 General Industry Standards), preferred
  • Must Show Mechanical Experience maintaining and repairing of commercial equipment

The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands simultaneously and to interact with the public and other staff.
 
EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION:  EXEMPT
 
SALARY:    Dependent on education and experience. (212-day position)
