JOB PURPOSE:
Provide high quality, learner-centered instruction for students enrolled in the CNA program at any Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) location while supporting the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. Note: This position requires classroom and clinical teaching.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct all class and clinical sessions according to the state-approved schedule
  • Provide instruction, activities, assignments, and assessments to adequately cover all Student Learning Objectives
  • Use teaching methods that emphasize application, cooperation and collaboration and engage students actively in their studies, encouraging them to become independent learners with higher-order thinking skills
  • Organize and explain content using methods which are appropriate to students with differing abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experience
  • Assign and provide feedback for in- and out-of-class work; monitor student progress
  • Utilize assessment techniques to monitor student progress and success as outlined in the division and college assessment plans
  • Complete and submit all KDADS-required paperwork to the CNA Coordinator by the assigned deadline
  • Maintain regular office hours to ensure accessibility to students and colleagues
  • Maintain contemporary knowledge of subject matter taught through professional development activities and/or on-going clinical practice when not required to be on campus
  • Integrate available instructional technology
  • Demonstrate a willingness to provide online instruction
  • Advise and mentor students in collaboration with the CNA coordinator

  • Participate in graduation exercises
  • Work effectively in a variety of teams

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EDUCATION:

  • Hold a current Kansas Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Minimum of two years full-time licensed nursing experience (LPN or RN)
  • Meet at least one of the following requirements:
    • At least 1,750 hours of experience as a licensed nurse in a setting which demonstrates long-term nursing care, such as an adult care home, long term care unit of a hospital or a state institution for the mentally handicapped OR
    • Completed (or be able to complete by August 2019) at least 7 hours professional continuing education in “Person Centered Care for the Adult Care Home”
  • Meet at least one of the following requirements:
    • Experience supervising nurse aides OR
    • Experience teaching adults OR
    • Completed (or be able to complete by August 2019) a course in teaching adults OR
    • Completed (or be able to complete by August 2019) a professional continuing education offering on supervision or adult education

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college
  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy

 

SALARY RANGE: Compensation is commensurate with education and experience outlined in the collective bargaining contract.

 

WORK SCHEDULE: Must be able to work a variable schedule/hours to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours. Your appointment is contingent on sufficient enrollments, or on program and scheduling changes.
