Job Title: PT Lab Assistant- Welding Technology
Reports to:  Welding Instructor and Dean of Technology and Workforce Development
Supervises: N/A
Position type: Part-Time up to 29 hours per week.
FLSA Status:  Non-exempt

 

JOB PURPOSE:
Work with and assist Welding Technology instructor(s).
 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical guidance in the performance of specific tasks in the welding program.
  • Observe and document student performance of tasks assigned by welding instructors.
  • Ensure safety practices are followed by students.
  • Follow required pollution prevention procedures in the handling of chemicals and waste products.
  • Maintain records of the orders for proper accountability of materials.
  • Maintain control of college owned specialty tools for use by students.
  • Enforce all rules and regulations, per the college’s guidelines and other enforcement agencies that govern student practices of KCKCC.
  • Assist in the responsibilities of the transportation of students during field trips per the College’s policies and guidelines.
  • Travel with students to off campus activities.
  • Must Assist with organizing all aspects of welding technology projects, include good customer relationships, meeting deadlines and producing quality work
  • Give demonstrations on SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, OAW and various cutting processes.
  • Capable to present some lecture on SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, OAW and various cutting processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the respective instructor.
  • Work schedule will be part-time, 29 or less hours per week. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must know and be able to teach proper and correct techniques in welding technology.
  • Must have the ability to work with individuals of various backgrounds and abilities.
  • Must understand the philosophy of the urban, open-door community college.
  • Applicant must have basic knowledge on repairs to welding machines.
  • Familiar with welding fabrication.
  • Capable of welding in all four plate positions with SMAW, GMAW, FCAW and GTAW.
  •  Have general knowledge of OAW, OFC, PAC and CAC-A.
  • Must be flexible in work schedule. 
  • Applicant must be  able to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have 3-5 years’ experience as a welding technician performing the varied duties in a welding shop environment. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification in welding technology.
  • Associate’s degree.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

SALARY:   $22.96 per hour.

WORK SCHEDULE:
Must be able to work a variable schedule/varying hours to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours; as needed.
