JOB PURPOSE:
The Accounting Specialist II shall be responsible for the receipting of monies and other related work as required.
 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receive monies from all departments and outside vendors, reconcile daily deposits.
  • Collect tuition and fees from students.
  • Perform routine filing and typing duties.
  • Post non-sufficient funds to student accounts.
  • Reconcile student accounts with Financial Aid.
  • Responsible for collection agency – submitting and terminating delinquent/past due accounts with agency.
  • Distribute student payroll checks and other checks as needed.
  • Assist with answering the telephone and taking message for all business office personnel.
  • Review accounts payable checks for filing.
  • Mail reminder and past due statements throughout the semester.
  • Perform other duties related to the Business Office as assigned by the Bursar.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to operate 10-key with efficiency and speed as well as computer skills and other electronic office machines.
  • Experience analyzing student accounts in regards to financial aid and scholarships preferred.
  • Possess excellent organizational and detail-oriented skills.
  • Ability to complete projects efficiently and accurately.
  • Strong Customer Service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Requires good decision making and processing skills. Must have effective communication skills in dealing with on demand and complex concerns. This position has high customer contact and interaction.
  • Ability to keep information confidential.
  • Visual ability sufficient to process requests for purchase, perform computer and check writing operations and identify students against their student identification card.
  • Experience performing various accounting duties and use of computerized accounting software including EXCEL and WORD. Experience with ELLUCIAN (formerly DATATEL) preferred.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent and five (5) years relevant experience OR
  • Associate’s Degree and two (2) years relevant experience.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

 

SALARY RANGE:   $36,000 - $45,000, Actual salary will be commensurate with Education and Experience.

 

WORK SCHEDULE:
Must be able to work a variable schedule/varying hours to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours; as needed.
