Part- Time ADULT EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR- Leavenworth Center

This position is located at KCKCC’s Leavenworth Center. The Adult Education Instructor shall be responsible to the Adult Education Enrollment Manager and teach all subjects in adult education.  The subjects include Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Employment skills, Technology and Transitions to College. This instruction will include adult students at all levels.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Tutor/Teach all aspects of classes, including reading, writing, math, social studies, and science.
  2. Prepare and submit lesson plans for all classes.
  3. Prepare and submit student progress reports for all classes.
  4. Prepare and submit attendance for all classes.
  5. Prepare and submit contact logs for student contacts.
  6. Advise with students every three weeks and maintain proper documentation.
  7. Prepare thoroughly those students who are to take the GED examination.
  8. Prepare students to meet program goals (educational attainment, secure employment, retain/improve employment, transition to post-secondary, college readiness, citizenship skills, and other goals set forth by the program or the KBOR).
  9. Prepare students to enter post-secondary education and training.
  10. Prepare students to pass the COMPASS.
  11. Evaluate and monitor all students’ progress.
  12. Keep all necessary records for state and federal reports.
  13. Administer assessments to students as necessary.
  14. Supervise any volunteer tutors and help make appropriate assignments for tutors to work with students.
  15. Attend and participate in all student orientations.
  16. Attend and participate in all instructor orientations.
  17. Attend staff development activities during the year to enhance quality of instruction.
  18. Obtain and maintain CASAS assessment certification, or any other certification required by KBOR or the college.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned by the Enrollment Manager.
 
CONSULTING TASKS
  1. Consult with other instructors and Enrollment Manager about student progress.
  2. Consult with Enrollment Manager and other instructors concerning the purchase of books/materials and other items to enhance the program.
 
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Supervise any volunteer tutors concerning instructional techniques and course content information.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  1. Must have an appreciation for the intent of the Adult Education Program relative to assisting individuals in the learning process.
  2. Must be patient, flexible, and able to work with individuals with various backgrounds and abilities.
  3. Must understand the urban community college philosophy of the open-door concept.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  1. At least 1-2 years of experience working with Adult Education/Adult Learners
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Education, Adult Education or a related field

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
 
  1. Must be able to use hands to operate computer.
  2. Employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 10 lbs.
  3. Must be able to communicate effectively to present information to students and to respond to questions.
 
SCHEDULE:     Instructional Hours: 5:30- 8:30 pm, Monday – Wednesday
On Site Hours: 5:00 – 5:30 pm and 8:30 – 9:00 pm, Monday – Wednesday
Planning Hours: 2 Per Week
 
Total Hours per week: 14 hours a week for 42 weeks
 
SALARY:         $11,760 yearly This is a grant-funded position.
