This position is a full-time instructor position for the Major Appliance Technology program.  The TEC Major Appliance Technology Program is a Professional Servicers Association participating program, and offers entry level Major Appliance/Commercial Refrigeration Certifications as well as EPA licensing. The position will consist of presenting detailed instruction about all major residential and commercial kitchen and laundry equipment; as well as detailed instruction covering commercial refrigeration, silver brazing, electrical and mechanical troubleshooting technics.
 
The Instructor will participate in curriculum development, support KCKCC marketing efforts, establish/coordinate an industry-based advisory board.  This position reports directly to the Technical Education Center Dean of Academic Workforce Programs

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Provide formal instruction and leadership in major appliance technology curriculum and materials both in the classroom and in the lab.
  2. Follow appropriate safety practices as they pertain to major Appliance/Commercial Refrigeration industry.
  3. Work 40 hours per week. (Release from some teaching is possible for special projects or noncredit training activities.)
  4. Specify, select, install, operate, and maintain necessary equipment and/or training modules required to support the specific course(s) being taught within departmental budget restraints.
  5. Prepare course syllabi addressing targeted student abilities, specific competencies, textbook requirements, grading/assessment methodology, course scheduling, and/or other items as required.
  6. Provide regular, timely reports to students of academic performance including current grades in course(s) taught.
  7. Establish and/or maintain an industry-based advisory board in support of college-level construction technology and advanced manufacturing technology programs.
  8. Demonstrate commitment to the program, division, and total institution by timely attendance and submission of required grade, attendance, or other miscellaneous reports to the administration.
  9. Participate in marketing activities for the division and/or institution by interfacing with the college’s Public Information Director to provide supporting materials as required for the development of advertising promotions such as brochures, media spots, web pages, posters, etc..
  10. Assist in student job placement and follow-up.
  11. Develop and maintain a professional development plan.
  12. Assist in obtaining or maintaining accreditation for programs taught as assigned.
  13. Submit required reports by deadlines.        
  14. Meet classes at the listed times.
  15. Maintain regular, posted office hours, which will be up to 10 hours of office hours per week. This may vary depending on the nature of the work and other duties as assigned by the dean.
  16. Serve on institutional committees as needed.
  17. Support college activities
  18. Perform departmental and divisional responsibilities.
  19. Teach at other centers or locations if needed.
  20. Dismiss classes only with prior approval from the division dean.
  21. Successfully complete important assessment work.
  22. Other related duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No direct administrative supervision but occasional task assignment/monitoring for a lab assistant, student classroom assistant, work-study helper, or student intern.
 
 QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
 
  1. A valid driver’s license and ability to drive college vehicles.
  2. Ability to follow and execute recipes adhering to strict industry standards.
  3. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  4. Ability to work with a variety of students and prepare them for a career in the industry.
  5. Knowledge of use and care of commercial kitchen equipment
  
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  1. Minimum 3 years experience of electrical diagnostics service and repair of residential or commercial food equipment, residential laundry or commercial refrigeration equipment..
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in Vocational Education preferred however other candidates will be considered.
  3. Ability to communicate technical concepts to a diverse student population.
  4. Effectively supervise student learning and hands on activities.
 
 
SALARY:       Dependent upon education and experience.
