EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
 

LMS TECHNICAL AND DATABASE SPECIALIST

 
Reporting directly to the Director of Online Education Services, the online education Services LMS Technical and Database Support Specialist shall be responsible for:
 
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Training students individually and in groups on the use of the current course management system utilized for online classes.
  2. Provide training to faculty and staff individually and in groups on the use of the current course management system and other software utilized for online classes.
  3. Provide technical support to online student on the current course management system.
  4. Perform daily updates, server maintenance, and student enrollment in the software management system.
  5. Complete and maintain appropriate training and certification for the course management system and other software and tools used by Online Education Services.
  6. Represent KCKCC online endeavors at various conferences and committee off site.
  7. Actively participate in college-wide endeavors.
  8. Work collaboratively with other team members to develop training content and materials.
  9. Work collaboratively with other departments to support software used with online systems.
  10. Other duties as assigned.
 
CONSULTING TASKS:
  1. Assist the Instructional Support Specialist providing support for faculty as needed.
  2. Serve on appropriate committees that further online education goals within the college’s strategic plan.
  3. Other duties as assigned.
 
SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
  1. None
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required but is not limited solely to these qualifications.
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
  2. Five years minimum experience in supporting a learning management system.
  3. One year minimum experience system and database administration in the Blackboard Learn system.
  4. Strong skills in Microsoft SQL, Student Information Systems Administration, relational databases management, and web development skills.
  5. Strong LMS end-user support skills.
  6. Strong communication skills, affability, patience, and customer focus required.  This position will have contact with the public.
  7. Ability to work within a team environment.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Knowledge of Databases (Microsoft SQL Server, MySql, Oracle, SQL, ADO, ADO.NET, ODBC) HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Classic ASP, FTP, Remote Desktop, COM, VbScript, PowerShell, Windows Batch Files, WMI, PHP, cURL, DNS, RoboCopy, Windows Task Scheduler, Active Directory, HTTP, HTTPS, Cookies, AJAX.
  2. Knowledge of a variety of Web Servers (such as IIS and Apache) and Browsers (such as IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari).
  3. Knowledge of administrative knowledge of Desktop Operating Systems (such as:  Windows 7, Windows 8, MAC OS X and Linus) and administrative knowledge of server operating systems (such as Windows Server 2008, Linux).
  4. Knowledge of online content development tools, such as Dreamweaver, Flash, Shockwave, Photoshop, Captivate or their equivalency.
  5. Knowledge of audio and video software.
  6. Knowledge of audio and video software.
  7. Three years’ experience supporting a content management system such as Blackboard, ANGEL, BrightSpace, etc.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
 
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in technical field required.
  2. Experience in a community college or other higher educational environments is beneficial.

SALARY:                 $52,000/per year, plus benefits (If a current KCKCC employee is selected for this position, consideration will be given to his/her current salary.)
