The Director of Nursing Education shall be responsible to the Dean of Health Professions for all matters of the Nursing program, including, but not limited to: curriculum revision and development, maintenance of accreditation status, recruitment and selection of students, faculty assignments, and evaluation of students and program.  The Director serves as a liaison between the Dean and the Nursing faculty.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Develop and revise nursing curriculum, course descriptions, course content, program, course and clinical objectives with faculty input.
  2. Lead faculty in Nursing Curriculum Week each year.
  3. Maintain specialized accreditation of Accreditation Council for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and Kansas State Board of Nursing (KSBN).
  4. Conduct an on-going, comprehensive assessment of program effectiveness according to ACEN standards.
  5. Supervise the recruitment and selection of students for the nursing program and maintain student records. 
  6. Schedule and coordinate clinical placement of students.
  7. Coordinate and chair the Advisory Board, including selection of members and planning for meetings.  
  8. Prepare and submit annual reports, including but not limited to KSBN, ACEN, KBOR, NLN, HLC, Perkins and KCKCC.
  9. Develop and administer budget for nursing.
  10. Compile classroom and course schedules.
  11. Coordinate textbook selection and ordering.
  12. Interview and recommend staff in area of responsibility.
  13. Facilitate the recruitment, development, and retention of an outstanding and diverse faculty and staff.
  14. Orient and supervise staff reporting to the Director.
  15. Maintain academic excellence in established program and discipline.
  16. Recommend faculty assignments.
  17. Evaluate staff assigned to the Nursing program.
  18. Serve as a member of the following standing committees:
    1. Nursing Admission/Progression Committee
    2. Nursing Curriculum Committee
    3. Nursing Advisory Committee
  19. Recommend and evaluate technology for the program.
  20. Participate in faculty, departmental and division meetings.  Serve on college committees as appointed or volunteered.
  21. Ensure that position description(s) in area(s) of responsibility are kept up to date.
  22. Advise and enroll nursing and pre-nursing students.
  23. Promote the program through recruitment and marketing activities such as responding to program inquiries, preparing and dispensing brochures, create presentations, attend career fairs, visit high schools, etc.
  24. Maintain records for all program students during the program and for a period of five (5) years after graduation.
  25. Purchase major equipment for nursing laboratory or department with the approval of Dean of Health Professions, including Carl D. Perkins funding purchases.
  26. Consult with other Nursing programs in Kansas and the Metro area.
  27. Consult with coordinators of other Health Professions programs.
  28. Consult with the Dean regarding program administration, including load reporting.
  29. Consult with the Academic Affairs office to update the college catalog.
  30. Consult with the Information Technology/Services department to maintain accurate information on the college website.
  31. Consult with the Dean of Health Professions to complete faculty evaluations.
  32. Other duties as assigned

  2. Nursing faculty (full-time and adjunct) and staff members

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Education must meet the requirements as mandated by the Higher Learning Commission, North Central Accreditation Agency for the appropriate field of study and degrees awarded at this institution.  Each department displays the specific requirements for each position. Participation in integrated, interdisciplinary teaching and learning initiatives is required.
  1. Master’s degree in Nursing required; Doctoral degree in Nursing or Education preferred.
  2. Current or eligible for licensure as a nurse in the state of Kansas.
  3. Minimum of five (5) years, full-time post licensure experience.
  4. Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a faculty member.
  5. Licensed to practice nursing in the State of Kansas.
  6. Coursework in curriculum development and evaluation preferred.
  7. Experience in administration, academic governance, fiscal management, and human resource management preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, squat, twist, lift 50# (100# occasionally), reach over head, push, pull and/or bend.  The individual is regularly required to talk, see and hear to interact with students, faculty and staff. The employee will regularly use the hands/fingers on tools, keyboards, and therapeutic equipment.
 
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
 
 
SALARY:    $70,000-$90,000 per year, based on education and experience
