Head Baseball Coach
 
PURPOSE:
The intercollegiate athletic program is an integral part of Kansas City Kansas Community College. It is the duty of the Athletic Department to provide leadership in the development of educational values.  These values include:  intellectual, social, moral, emotional, and cultural growth, loyalty, cooperation, teamwork, physical health and an ability to accept responsibility.
 
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop, manage, and successfully coach the sport of baseball.
  • Manage and operate within budget parameters, without exception.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all NJCAA, Region VI and KJCCC by-laws and regulations.
  • Ensure adherence with established institutional compliance rules, policies, and procedures as well as ethical standards of behavior.
  • Ensure satisfactory academic performance of student-athletes.
  • Ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes.
  • Responsible for successful coaching, to include supporting the academic, athletic, and social development of each player further maximizing the team's potential/abilities, and retaining student-athletes through graduation and four-year placement.
  • Recruit high talented student-athletes for the baseball team with a focus on our service district area.
  • Supervise and mentor coaching assistants as directed and approved by Director of Athletics.
  • Manage the operations of sport camps and/or clinics.
  • Manage all program fund-raising events in accordance with College, NJCAA, Region VI and KJCCC expectations, and institutional rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Learn, understand, and adhere to all NJCAA, Region VI, and KJCCC guidelines and maintain up-to-date rosters, squad lists and other information keeping compliance as a first priority.
  • Participate in long-range planning and assessment, attend all departmental training sessions and meetings, read and comply with all departmental policy manuals.
  • Attend conference and region meetings, games, contests or college events as assigned.
  • Communicate with officials and officials’ assignor.
  • Assist with the supervision of the athletic facilities when used by outside groups as well as KCKCC groups.
  • May drive rental vans or vehicles to and from team activities, or arranges for qualified drivers, as appropriate. Must be able to meet and maintain College guidelines or insurance guidelines for driving rental vans and vehicles
  • Work closely with Facilities and Grounds workers to insure proper upkeep of athletic facilities.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Needs to passionately support and articulate the College mission and vision for athletics within the context of that mission.
  • Minimum of  3-5 years head collegiate coaching experience or a minimum of 10 plus years as a college assistant- that includes recruiting student-athletes, marketing.  scheduling, equipment budgeting/management, and facility care. Professional playing experience will be considered.
  • Earned Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Need to be gifted in supervising and motivating others.
  • Must be creative and innovative; discerning and a thorough planner.
  • Need to be an organizer and communicator.
  • Must be able to obtain a CDL (Class C) to be able drive the team bus
  • Ability to work with individuals with varied backgrounds, abilities, and capabilities
  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the philosophy of the urban, open-door, comprehensive community college

PERFORMANCE INCENTIVES:
  1. KJCCC Regular Season Champions                     $250
  2. Region VI Tournament Champions                        $2,000
  3. NJCAA National Tournament Champions $3,000
 
SALARY:           $43,448.69
Competitive and commensurate with qualifications. Serving in Full-time, 12 month position.
