Job Purpose: Assist students with mastering subject matter and skills that will contribute to their personal and intellectual development toward attainment of a certificate as a licensed practical nurse (LPN).

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support College Policies and Procedures, Growth, and Enhancement of Mission:

  • Convene scheduled classes in accordance with college policy.
  • Maintain regular office hours to ensure accessibility to students and colleagues.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Exercise stewardship of college facilities and materials.
  • Advise and mentor students
  • Contribute to college and division collaborative planning and development processes as they apply to the student learning process.
  • As a part of shared governance principles, support recruitment and retention of students, faculty, and staff
  • Serve on committees and make a contribution to the work of the committee


Instruction: Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and--in harmony with the goals--establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicate these objectives to students

  • Communicate teaching philosophy to students
  • Articulate, accept, and uphold the mission and purpose of Kansas City Kansas Community College
  • Demonstrate a student-centered philosophy
  • Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field or discipline
  • Stay current in subject matter through professional development activities
  • Infuse diversity into curriculum
  • Infuse local, community, global, and environmental awareness into curriculum


Facilitation of the Teaching Learning Process:

  • Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning
  • Construct competency-based syllabi
  • Maintain up-to-date course content
  • Provide learning activities that meet course objectives
  • Incorporate appropriate General Education learning outcomes into curriculum
  • Meet learning needs of diverse student populations
  • Integrate available instructional technology when appropriate
  • Select texts and supporting materials

Evaluation of Student Learning:

  • Adhere to division-determined and KBOR approved course outcomes
  • Adhere to College, State, and Federal established deadlines for submitting reports and records related to student learning and student outcomes
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress
  • Assess Student Learning: Utilize assessment techniques to monitor student progress and success as outlined in the division and college assessment plans

Technology:

  • Operate and stay current on appropriate instructional technology equipment (over-heads, computers, Display Devices, Smart classroom equipment, etc.)
  • Demonstrate Computer Literacy and Internet Skills
  • Retrieve and manage information via technology
  • Demonstrate a willingness to provide online instruction

Communication:

  • Communicate effectively using reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Work in teams

Attendance:

  • Attend and participate in division meetings, in-services, and college-sponsored events.
  • Participate in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the College and its constituents, such as, presentation at conferences in discipline, publishing in journals, books, etc.
  • Participate in graduation exercises.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Develop and present didactic concepts.
  • Write test questions for didactic content presented.
  • Supervise students in clinical rotations.
  • Conduct clinical evaluations of students.
  • Maintain contemporary knowledge in professional areas of responsibility.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and meeting accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Participation in integrated, interdisciplinary teaching and learning initiatives is required

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Education must meet the requirements as mandated by the Higher Learning Commission and Kansas State Board of Nursing.

  • Bachelor degree require; Master degree preferred.
  • Current or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse in Kansas.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of clinical practice as a RN is required; experience as both a LPN and RN preferred.
  • One (1) year of teaching experience preferred, either academic or clinical.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.


SALARY:           Commensurate with education and experience per the Master Contract.
