EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
 
SWITCHBOARD OPERATOR – Shift:  11:00 AM to 8:00 PM

Reporting directly to the Dean of Information Services, the Switchboard Operator will be responsible for:
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Greet and provide assistance to inquiries from the public.
  2. Provide general information about the College via telephone, including campus directions, hours of operations of departments, and campus/community events to students, general public, faculty, and staff.
  3. Maintain various voice messages associated with holidays and College closings.
  4. Maintain current telephone extensions.
  5. Assist with 911 calls when necessary by alerting other offices.
  6. Assists with related clerical duties such as faxing, filing, photocopying and collating.
  7. Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe and efficient manner and with minimal supervision.

 QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 
  1. Knowledge of department and college policies, procedures, and practices with the ability to answer work related questions; and/or interpret and apply these guidelines correctly in various situations.
  2. Strong customer service skills.
  3. Knowledge of daily and upcoming events on campus.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people, including students, staff, faculty, and the general public.
  5. Proper telephone etiquette
  6. Knowledge of general office procedures
  7. Ability to keyboard at 40 words per minute (test will be administered).
  8. Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  1. High School Diploma or GED required. Secretarial coursework or A.A Degree Preferred.
  2. Six months of relevant phone switchboard experience and/or training required.
  3. One year customer service experience required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit.  Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift items.  The employee is directly responsible for safety and work output.
 
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
 
 
  1. Hearing ability sufficient to communicate with customers.
  2. Visual ability sufficient to operate computer, telephone and copier.
 
SALARY:             $23,413.49 per year plus fringe benefits
