Project Aide for NYSP Program
(8-10 Positions)

Reports to: Liaison Officer
The NYSP Project Aide along with the Team Leader is directly responsible for his/her group in the NYSP program. She/he will supervise his/her group at all times during the program.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Shall assist Team Leader by being in charge of all group members and staff in the NYSP program at all times, including arrival and departure, and displaying leadership in all phases of the program.
  2. Supervise team in all activities and movement from one activity site to the other.
  3. Assist the professional instructor on site with their activity. For example, helping the swimming instructor demonstrate strokes. (Project Aides must get in the pool with participants.)
  4. Supervise team during meals.
  5. Assist Team Leader in keeping accurate daily attendance records of all team members.
  6. Attend all staff meeting during and attend orientation.
  7. Be available to help with participant orientation.
  8. Report promptly to the Team Leader or Liaison Officer any difficult situations which may arise with participants. (All Project Aides and Team Leaders are to handle minimal discipline problems and refer only more serious problems to the Liaison Officer.)
  9. Assist with the implementation and supervision of special events/and or field trips.
  10. Take safety precautions at all times. Report all accidents to the Medical Coordinator.
  11. Maintain an attitude conducive to constructive group interaction among all participants.
  12. Build team unity, spirit, identity, organization and loyalty.
  13. Wear NYSP staff shirt daily or appropriate sportswear, remembering that dress reflects upon the image of the program and sets an example for participants.
  14. Act as a public relations person whenever the occasion arises.
  15. Drive college vehicle with participants to off-campus activity if needed.
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 
  1. Knowledge and ability to play a variety of sports.
  2. Ability to work well with youth.
  3. Ability to motivate and maintain discipline in a positive manner with youth.
  4. Must possess high energy level and be creative and enthusiastic.
  5. Must be flexible and cooperative.
  6. Must be prompt and reliable and able to follow directions.
  7. Must possess strong communication skills.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  1.  Must be 18 years old.
  2. Must have experience working with youth.
  3. Training in CPR or First Aid is desirable.
  4.  Must have a valid driver’s license and a clear motor vehicle record.
  5. High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  6. College courses in physical education, recreation or education is preferred.

SALARY:             Contract for June 8-July 9 - $9.00 per hour
