The Professional Assistant is responsible for a range of activities relating to workforce, career and entrepreneurial success in students and constituents. This position develops strong relationships with students and area individuals and business and industry representatives, who employ interns, hire students, contract training/education, develop entrepreneurships, and create mutually beneficial partnerships with KCKCC. Reporting to the Director of Workforce and Career Development, and the Director of Entrepreneurship, the Professional Assistant shall have the following responsibilities:
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Support activities with students who seek help with resumes, internships, job searches, training opportunities, and other career-related activities.
  2. Prepare and process agreements with partners related to courses, workshops, and events.
  3. Support workforce, career, and entrepreneurship events.
  4. Coordinate activities for companies who participate in activities, such as on-campus recruiting activities, business/industry informational events, entrepreneurial events, consulting sessions and job fairs.
  5. Support logistics for consultants and instructors.
  6. Build relationships with business, industry, and community organizations.
  7. Coordinate marketing and advertising initiatives, including the development and dissemination of hard copy and electronic marketing materials. Update the web and social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter, and blog sites.
  8. Develop and maintain resources for entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship programming classes and consulting appointments in conjunction with Kansas Small Business Development Center.
  9. Conduct presentations and facilities tours.
  10. Support the logistics associated with internship, job shadowing, and employment opportunities for students, and follow up with both employers and students as required by supervisor.
  11. Submit all reports in a timely manner to supervisor.
  12. Adhere to KCKCC policies and procedure, including hiring instructors, assuring payments, facility usage, and other areas.
  13. Maintain records, develop budgets, write final reports for events, create records of employer/student contacts, enter jobs into database, and track KPIs and other financial and historical documentation.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  1. Student Work-Study Personnel.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  1. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Package (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Publisher) and Social Media
  2. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  3. Must be able to work well with diverse groups with varying personalities, abilities and capabilities, both on the telephone and in person
  4. Must display the ability to maintain confidentiality
  5. Excellent organizational skills with emphasis on detail, planning, and implementation of complex programs.
  6. Familiarity with Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties
  7. Have an understanding of urban community college populations.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Two years of experience working in a career/employment area, workforce development, or entrepreneurship.
  2. One year of experience with training, curriculum development, entrepreneurship, workforce development, or employment-related field.
  3. Marketing experience.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  1. High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s Degree preferred
  2. One year of experience working in a business environment.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
 
  1. Visual ability sufficient to operate computer and office equipment
  2. Hearing ability sufficient to answer telephone and assist patrons of the College

 
 
SALARY:             $ 26,893.33/per year, plus fringe benefits.
(If a current KCKCC employee is selected for this position, consideration will be given to his/her current salary.)
