MAINTENANCE WORKER

The Maintenance Worker shall be responsible to the Assistant Director of Buildings & Grounds for the maintenance, upkeep, remodeling, and general operation of the physical plant.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Diagnosis and repair of minor lighting problems; i.e. changing ballasts, light switches, and 110-volt receptacles.
  2. Diagnosis and repair of minor plumbing problems; i.e. bad flush valves, leaking faucets, unclogging stools, drains, and water fountains.
  3. Preparing surfaces to be painted and painting with a brush or roller.
  4. Ability to lay out and construct stud walls, hang doors and windows.
  5. Hanging bulletin boards, shelving, etc., using squares, levels, and wall anchors.
  6. Repairing damaged drywall.
  7. Running air handling units and performing basic maintenance, such as a changing filters and belts.
  8. Operating machinery and equipment generally used in school systems and industrial plants.
  9. Operating the physical plant on a shift basis, including weekends and holidays.
  10. Assisting the Assistant Director with vehicle maintenance.
  11. Assisting the Assistant Director with the mail run.
  12. Performing all other duties as assigned
 
 
CONSULTING TASKS
  1. Assisting the Assistant Director with special projects.
  2. Assisting the Assistant Director with set-ups and tear downs of activities as needed.
  3. Assisting the Assistant Director in achieving departmental goals.
  4. Assisting the Assistant Director in maintaining the safety of the campus.
 
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Student workers as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  1. Must possess and maintain a current valid driver’s license.
  2.  Knowledge of how to use and operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment found in large facilities.
  3. Ability to work alone or as a member of a group.
  4. Ability to perform routine preventative maintenance as directed by the Assistant Director.

 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Diploma or course work in any building trade preferred.
  3. Minimum of two years’ experience working in the field.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit.  Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift items.  The employee is directly responsible for safety, wellbeing, and work output.
 
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
 
  1. Physical ability sufficient to lift 50 lb. bags of ice melt or other material and carry several feet.
  2. Physical ability sufficient to work around the clock.
  3. Physical ability sufficient to work in extreme temperature ranges.
  4. Hearing ability sufficient to notice alarms and mechanical malfunctions.
  5. Visual ability sufficient to drive vehicles.
 
All applicants tentatively selected for the position of FT Maintenance Worker at Kansas City Kansas Community College will be required to submit to and successfully complete a physical examination and criminal background check prior to appointment. 
Applicants will also be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal or prohibited drug use.  Appointment to the position is contingent upon negative drug test results.
 
SALARY:            $32,573.44-$33,379.44 per year.
 
HOURS:               Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
