JOB PURPOSE:
Applicants must be customer focused, courteous, professional, and possess aquatics background with current Lifeguard and CPR certification. Part Time Lifeguard & Wellness & Fitness Center Staff should possess excellent supervisory, communication, and public relation skills and the willingness to work as a member of the Wellness & Fitness Center team.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Greet each participant with a welcoming smile.
• Promote public relation for the college.
• Log-in and log-out of members via computer check-in system.
• Signing up new students for the wellness courses.
• Answering general questions about the wellness program.
• Maintains checkout of towels.
• Performing clerical work.
• Answer telephone and take messages.
• Schedule appointments.
• Follow up with members who missed appointments.
• Ensure that exercise equipment is safe and clean and in proper working condition.
• Loading washer and dryer when towels require cleaning.
• Controlling the TV/VCR and stereo system.
• Provide lifeguard coverage for the aquatic classes.
• Insuring safety of all members in the Wellness & Fitness Center and pool area.
• Data base entry of Wellness members.

CONSULTING TASKS:
• Assisting with computer log-in and data entry.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Must have exceptional human relation skills.
• Must be a self-starter and have an outgoing and dynamic personality.
• Must be able to handle several tasks at once
• Must be punctual and willing to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends to meet operational needs.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
• High School Diploma/GED.
• Must have CPR certification (can be provided at Fitness Center).
• Must be currently lifeguard certified or able to obtain certification within the first 90 days of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• The Lifeguard monitors the pool area, providing a safe experience for the members. The lifeguard will take preventative actions while on duty and act immediately and appropriately to emergency situations.
• Prevent Aquatic Emergencies from occurring by constantly scanning and enforcing all facility policies and maintaining a safe environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit.  Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift items.  The employee is directly responsible for safety, wellbeing, and work output.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

SALARY:   $11.57 per hour, 20 hours per week.
