Job Purpose: The college nurse shall be responsible to the Dean of Enrollment Management & Student Services for providing a general health care program for college students and personnel; the coordination of Comprehensive Health, Human Sexuality and AIDS Resource Center, the Campus Immunization Process, and initial evaluation and referral of employees for Workers Compensations claims.
 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintaining the health office where students and staff may receive first aid treatment and appropriate referral.
  • Providing tuberculin test to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Maintaining health office supplies and medications.
  • Possible supervision an LPN.
  • Hiring of Student workers and supervising their work within the office of Student Health Services. 
  • Coordinating the Comprehensive Health, Human Sexuality and AIDS Resource Center.
  • Proving Drug Awareness Training
  • Collaborating and maintaining records with an area physician to run the office of Student Services and maintain AED prescription for college equipment.
  • Conducting the annual Health Fair and Coordinating health wellness events throughout the year such as Blood Drives and Breast Cancer Awareness.
  • Collaborate with other divisions regarding “safety” initiatives on campus.
  • Respond to on campus emergencies.  Maintaining the person’s safety until EMS is called and completing emergency documentation. Referring paperwork to proper individuals.
  • Maintain Tuberculin records for faculty, staff, and students along with HIPPA standards.
  • Monitor compliance of KS statue KSA 2009 Supp. 65-129e i.e. keeping all records, testing, and accounting of all students on all campuses.
  • Assist staff and faculty with injuries and workers compensation paperwork is appropriately filled out and routed to proper individuals.
  • Monitoring and maintaining Immunization tracking system for student housing.
  • Monthly reporting of office information and its connection to the strategic plan to the Dean of Enrollment Management & Student Services.
  • Yearly reporting of business in Student Health Services to the Dean of Enrollment Management & Student Services.
  • Monitoring and maintaining the budget of the Student Health Services.
  • Conducting multiple Flu clinics for staff, faculty, students and the community.
  • Receive calls from students who are missing class due to medical reasons and refer this information to the proper faculty members.
  • Maintain proper equipment in office is calibrated on a monthly and yearly basis.
  • Maintain temperature of TB solutions and record keeping of data, as well as keeping inventory stock record.
  • Maintaining CLIA licensure in the office to run testing for students.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Must possess some background in factious disease, specifically tuberculosis, Hepatitis B and C, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV and AIDS.
  • Availability to respond to immediate student crisis situations.
  • Knowledge of all applicable laws such as Title IX, VAWA, Clery Act, ADA, FERPA, HIPPA and others as applicable.
  • Understanding the responsibilities of being a “responsible employee” and a Clery Act Security Authority.

CONSULTING TASKS

  • Maintaining communication with the Dean of Enrollment Management & Student Services.
  • Maintaining communication with the campus community and community patrons.
  • Consulting with the area physician overseeing the Student Health Service Office.
  • Collaborating with Counseling & Advocacy regarding student and staff mental health referrals.
  • Consulting with Wyandotte County Emergency Preparedness Office in order to maintain EOP (Emergency Operations Plan) for Kansas City Kansas Community College.
  • Collaborate with the State of Kansas for HIV/STD information and for safer sex kits.
  • Consulting with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment Tuberculosis Control Program.
  • Collaborate with CLIA for regulations for testing here on campus.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Registered Nurse required.  Prefer BSN.
  • Minimum one year of work experience in a hospital, doctor’s office, clinic, or other health-care related facility required.
  • RN licensure in the state of Kansas required.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • CEU’s and/or clinical experience in AIDS education, psychiatric nursing, human sexuality, family planning, and assisting students with disabilities preferred.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

  1. May have to knee, push or pull a patient in need of medical care.
  2. May be required to lift more than 50 lbs. in order to move a patient.
  3. Must be able to see or hear a patient.

 

SALARY:                 $55,000.00- $65,000.00 Based on education and experience.
