FULL TIME FACULTY - NURSING INSTRUCTOR

SUMMARY:  
To assist students’ master subject matters and skills that will contribute to their personal and intellectual development.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  1. Develop and present didactic concepts.
  2. Write test questions for didactic content presented.
  3. Supervise students in clinical rotations.
  4. Conduct clinical evaluations of students.
  5. Maintain and update own nursing clinical competencies.
  6. Contribute to curriculum development and meeting accreditation and regulatory standards.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Master of Science degree in Nursing required.
  2. Must be licensed in Kansas or Missouri and eligible for licensure in Kansas/Missouri.
  3. A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required.
  4. One year of teaching experience preferred; must be willing to maintain clinical competence.
  5. Education must meet the requirements as mandated by the Higher Learning Commission, North Central Accreditation Agency for the appropriate field of study and degrees awarded at this institution.  Each department displays the specific requirements for each position.  Participation in integrated, interdisciplinary teaching and learning initiatives is required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESOther duties may be assigned.
 
Support College Policies and Procedures, Growth, and Enhancement of Mission:
  1. Convene scheduled classes in accordance with college policy.
  2. Maintain regular office hours to ensure accessibility to students and colleagues.
  3. Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  4. Exercise stewardship of college facilities and materials.
  5. Advise and mentor students.
  6. Contribute to college and division collaborative planning and development processes as they apply to the student learning process.
  7. As a part of shared governance principles, support recruitment and retention of students, faculty, and staff.
  8. Serve on committees and make a contribution to the work of the committee.
 
Instruction:  Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and--in harmony with the goals--establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicate these objectives to students:
  1. Communicate teaching philosophy to students.
  2. Articulate, accept, and uphold the mission and purpose of Kansas City Kansas Community College.
  3. Demonstrate a student-centered philosophy.
  4. Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field or discipline.
  5. Stay current in subject matter through professional development activities.
  6. Infuse diversity into curriculum.
  7. Infuse local, community, global, and environmental awareness into curriculum.

Facilitation of the Teaching Learning Process:
  1. Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning.
  2. Construct competency-based syllabi.
  3. Maintain up-to-date course content.
  4. Provide learning activities that meet course objectives.
  5. Incorporate appropriate General Education learning outcomes into curriculum.
  6. Meet learning needs of diverse student populations.
  7. Integrate available instructional technology when appropriate.
  8. Select texts and supporting materials.
 
Evaluation of Student Learning:
  1. Adhere to division-determined and KBOR approved course outcomes.
  2. Adhere to College, State, and Federal established deadlines for submitting reports and records related to student learning and student outcomes.
  3. Maintain accurate records of student progress.
  4. Assess Student Learning:  Utilize assessment techniques to monitor student progress and success as outlined in the division and college assessment plans.
 
Technology:
  1. Operate and stay current on appropriate instructional technology equipment (over-heads, computers, Display Devices, Smart classroom equipment, etc.).
  2. Demonstrate Computer Literacy and Internet Skills.
  3. Retrieve and manage information via technology.
  4. Demonstrate a willingness to provide online instruction.
 
Communication:
  1. Communicate effectively using reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
  2. Work in teams.
 
Attendance:
  1. Attend and participate in division meetings, in-services, and college-sponsored events.
  2. Participate in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the College and its constituents, such as, presentation at conferences in discipline, publishing in journals, books, etc.
  3. Participate in graduation exercises.
  4.  
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises classroom and students.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts, such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram, or schedule form
 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:   Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.  Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and college objectives and the needs and abilities of students. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents. Skill in oral and written communication

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.  Ability to present information to students and respond as needed required. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands simultaneously and to interact with the public and other staff.
             
The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.   


SALARY:                 COMMENSURATE WITH EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PER THE MASTER CONTRACT.
