PART TIME LAB ASSISTANT – COMPUTER SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Reporting directly to the Computer Support Specialist Lead Instructor, the Assistant shall work with and assist the Computer Support Specialist Instructors in the following areas:
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teaches material from approved curriculum and develops daily lesson plans to include instructional aides.
- Participates in school retention initiatives by providing regular, accurate, and timely feedback to students and the school concerning academics, behavior, attendance, etc.
- Motivates students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process.
- Completes professional development and in-service activities in accordance with college standards.
- Maintains expertise in subject area and recommends improvements in curriculum design.
- Instructs students in laboratory safety procedures if applicable.
- Maintains classroom control when main instructor is out of building or in meetings.

Provide technical guidance in the performance of specific tasks in the maintenance and repair of computers.
- Observe and document student performance of tasks assigned by the program instructors.
- Ensure safety practices are followed by students.
- Follow required pollution prevention procedures in the handling of chemicals and waste products.
- Maintain records of repair orders for proper accountability of parts and materials.
- Maintain control of college owned specialty tools for use by students.
- Enforcing all rules and regulations, per the college’s guidelines and other enforcement agencies that govern student practices of KCKCC.
- Being responsible for the transportation of students during field trips per the College’s policies and guidelines.
- Traveling with students to off campus activities.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the program instructor.
- Work schedule will be part-time, 29 hours per week.
CONSULTING TASKS
May consult with Computer Support Specialist faculty and students.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Minimum 3- 5 years applicable experience in computer repair / network systems administration, network architecture, TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, routers and switches, Windows and Linux based server and client environments, and / or semester hours in the subject matter area is required.
- Individuals with certifications such as A+, Security+, MCSE, MCP, CNE, CCNA, CCNP, Network+, and Linux are preferred, but not mandatory.
- Evening hours may be required.
- Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and presentation skills required.
- Ability to utilize different methods and mediums in delivering course material.
- Experience in organizing and writing reports and presentations of a technical nature.
- Proven educational or administrative experience in critical thinking, problem solving and judgment skills.

EDUCATION
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
