BOOKSTORE CLERK

Reporting to the Director of the Bookstore, the Bookstore Clerk supports warehouse operations by receiving incoming material, counting and inventorying items, and receiving and checking the contents of packages against packing lists and manifests.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • The Bookstore Clerk position provides excellent customer service for all customer needs and purchases. He/she assists the staff in receiving, returning textbooks, book buyback, pricing, and deliveries. Position requires lifting of boxes containing books and ability to climb up and down ladders in shelving for inventory purposes.
  • Provides excellent customer service for all customer service needs and purchases.
  • Completes necessary price revisions on current textbook inventory.
  • Assists in the receiving, and placement of incoming textbooks.
  • Coordinates return and re-pricing of athletic textbooks.
  • Assists with maintaining the current list of textbooks used on campus.
  • Assists with the preparations for buyback.
  • Assists members of staff as needed with other tasks.
  • Helps keep store clean and merchandise displayed in an appealing manner.
  • Performs activities in preparation for closing the store including counting cash register tills and preparing deposits, printing reports reflecting daily sales, investigating and reconciling discrepancies and placing cash drawer into safe and securing doors.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with supply vendors regarding the ordering of candies and sundries, and monitors and rotates inventory as necessary. May inquire with textbook publishers regarding invoices and shipments.
  • Performs problem solving for customers and faculty including assisting in locating texts or supplies not on-site, and assisting in determining availability of back-ordered or late-ordered books.

None
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Data entry, math, basic keyboarding, and excellent communication and customer service skills to interact with a variety of people including defusing anger and resolving complaints/issues. Must have the ability to work independently in the absence of Bookstore Operations Assistant, and the Bookstore Supervisor
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months of experience in a retail operation, which includes cashiering, and working with the public.
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale systems required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
 
  • Hearing ability sufficient to assist customers.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Visual ability sufficient to perform accounting procedures and make correct change at cash register.

SALARY:                      $11.26 per hour
