Adult Education Instructor

The Adult Education Instructor shall be responsible to the Enrollment Manager. The Adult Education Instructor teaches all subjects in adult education, to all student academic levels. The subjects include Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Science, Technology, and College Preparation.
 
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Tutor/Teach all aspects of classes, including writing, math, reading, social studies, and science.
  2. Prepare and submit lesson plans for all classes to include the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS), TABE Competencies, and GED 2014.
  3. Prepare and submit attendance for all classes.
  4. Prepare and submit contact logs for student contacts.
  5. Advise with learners about goal setting and goal getting.
  6. Prepare thoroughly those students who are to take the GED examination.
  7. Prepare students to meet program goals (educational attainment, secure employment, retain/improve employment, transition to post secondary, college readiness, citizenship skills, and other goals set forth by the program or the KBOR).
  8. Prepare students to enter post secondary education and training.
  9. Prepare students to pass the Compass.
  10. Evaluate and monitor all students’ progress. 
  11. Keep all necessary records for state and federal reports.
  12. Administer assessments to students as necessary.
  13. Utilize the Adult Education Database-PABLO
  14. Supervise any volunteer tutors and help make appropriate assignments for tutors to work with students.
  15. Attend and participate in all program orientations.
  16. Attend staff development activities with other adult education staff during the year to enhance quality of instruction. 
  17. Attend all team meetings.
  18. Attend all monthly staff meetings.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned by the Enrollment Manager.
 
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Must have an appreciation for the intent of the Adult Education Program relative to assisting individuals in the learning process.
  2. Must have knowledge of a variety of effective teaching strategies to engage and motivate adult learners.
  3. Must be patient, flexible, and able to work with individuals with various backgrounds and abilities.
  4. Must possess the ability to work as a team with other instructors in all other disciplines.
  5. Must understand the urban community college philosophy of the open-door concept.
 
CONSULTING TASKS
  1. Consult with other instructors and Enrollment Manager about student attendance, behavior, and progress.
  2. Consult with Enrollment Manager and other instructors concerning the purchase of books/materials and other items to enhance the program.
 
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise any volunteer tutors concerning instructional techniques and course content
 information.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 
  1. At least 1-2 years of experience working with Adult Education/Adult Learners preferred.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Adult Education or a related field.
  2. Master’s degree in Education, English, Adult Education, or a related field preferred.

WORK SCHEDULE
                       
  • Instructional Hours: 8:30am-12:00pm, and 1:00pm-4:30 pm, Monday – Thursday
  • Planning Hours are 8:00am-8:30am and 4:30pm-5:00pm Monday –Thursday
  • Plus three additional planning hours
 
SALARY:        $32,400.00 (This position is grant funded for 45 weeks beginning August 5. When the grant ends the position will end.)
