JOB PURPOSE:
Assist students with mastering subject matter and skills that will contribute to their personal and intellectual development.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support College Policies and Procedures, Growth, and Enhancement of Mission:

  1. Convene scheduled classes in accordance with college policy.
  2. Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  3. Exercise stewardship of college facilities and materials.
  4. Advise and mentor students.

Instruction: Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and--in harmony with the goals--establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicate these objectives to students.

  1. Communicate teaching philosophy to students.
  2. Articulate, accept, and uphold the mission and purpose of Kansas City Kansas Community College.
  3. Demonstrate a student-centered philosophy.
  4. Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field or discipline.
  5. Stay current in subject matter through professional development activities.
  6. Infuse diversity into curriculum.
  7. Infuse local, community, global, and environmental awareness into curriculum.


Facilitation of the Teaching Learning Process:

  1. Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning.
  2. Construct competency-based syllabi.
  3. Maintain up-to-date course content.
  4. Provide learning activities that meet course objectives.
  5. Meet learning needs of diverse student populations.
  6. Integrate available instructional technology when appropriate.


Evaluation of Student Learning:

  1. Adhere to division-determined and KBOR approved course outcomes.
  2. Adhere to College, State, and Federal established deadlines for submitting reports and records related to student learning and student outcomes.
  3. Maintain accurate records of student progress.
  4. Assess Student Learning: Utilize assessment techniques to monitor student progress and success as outlined in the division and college assessment plans.

Technology:

  1. Operate and stay current on appropriate instructional technology equipment (over-heads, computers, Display Devices, Smart classroom equipment, etc.).
  2. Demonstrate Computer Literacy and Internet Skills.
  3. Retrieve and manage information via technology.
  4. Demonstrate a willingness to provide online instruction

Communication:

  1. Communicate effectively using reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
  2. Work in teams.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
According to state and federal standards, each course instructor must be a registered nurse with a current Kansas license and have a minimum of two years’ licensed nursing experience. Additionally, all nurse aide instructors must have completed a course in teaching adults or a professional continuing education offering on supervision or adult education, or shall have experience in teaching adults or supervising nurse aides and have and completed at least seven hours of professional continuing education offerings on person-centered care in an adult care home or a long-term care unit of a hospital not more than one year before becoming an instructor of the nurse aide training course and each year while serving as an instructor. To document alternative long-term care setting: “Alternative Practice Setting Experience” form is available upon request.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Education must meet the requirements as mandated by the Higher Learning Commission, North Central Accreditation Agency for the appropriate field of study and degrees awarded at this institution. Each department displays the specific requirements for each position. Participation in integrated, interdisciplinary teaching and learning initiatives is required.

SALARY: $782/credit hour or $45.36/hour (depending on course delivery methodology).
