PROFESSIONAL LAB INSTRUCTOR PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT PROGRAM

Reporting directly to the PTA Program Coordinator, the Lab Assistant shall work with and assist the PTA program faculty in the following areas: 
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Provide technical guidance in the performance of specific tasks in PTA courses.
  • Observe and document student performance of tasks assigned by PTA faculty, including completion of course observation checklists.
  • Enforce all rules and regulations that govern student practices in the PTA program at KCKCC.
  • Ensure safety practices are followed by all lab participants.
  • Follow required safety procedures, including, but not limited to electrical equipment safety, PPE and soiled linens.
  • Complete a monthly check of all laboratory equipment to determine the presence of any safety issues.
  • Schedule formal safety checks at least every 12 months and equipment repair visits as needed.
  • Maintain records of safety checks and repair orders for proper accountability of equipment.
  • Schedule and maintain open laboratory hours.
  • Maintain laundry for all labs.
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies and notify Program Coordinator when purchases need to be considered.
  • Serve as a patient for laboratory practicals.
  • Create learning resources for student use outside the classroom, including a video resource of technical skills for each lab course.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the respective instructor and/or Program Coordinator.
 
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Transport students during field trips per the KCKCC policies and guidelines.
  • Travel with students to off-campus laboratory activities.
 
CONSULTING TASKS
 
  • Consult with the Program Coordinator regarding:
    • equipment repair visits needed.
    • laboratory equipment purchases needed.
  • PTA faculty and students
 
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 
  • Know and be able to teach all laboratory-based skills completed by a PTA.
  • Excellent working knowledge of the PT/PTA relationship.
  • Current knowledge and skill in the use of information technology.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation, commitment to teamwork and positive attitude with colleagues, peers, and students.
  • Exceptional organization and communication skills.
  • Acceptance of the philosophy of the urban, open-door community college.
  • Ability to work with individuals of various backgrounds and abilities.
  • Maintain current in professional areas of responsibility.
  • Work a maximum of 29hrs./week.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  • Associate degree required; Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited physical therapy or physical therapist assistant education program.
  • Current or eligible for licensure (PT) or certification (PTA) in Kansas.
  • Clinical experience required; experience in orthopedics preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, squat, twist, lift 100#, reach over head, push, pull and/or bend. The individual is regularly required to talk, see, and hear to interact with students, faculty, and staff. The employee will regularly use the hands/fingers on tools, keyboards, and therapeutic equipment.
 
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
 
 
EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION:  EXEMPT
 
SALARY:                 $21/hr. with AAS; $29/hr. with BS (maximum 29 hrs./wk.)
