FULL-TIME CUSTODIAN 
Float / Floor Tech

Reporting directly to the Supervisor of Custodians, the primary responsibility of the Full-Time Custodian will be to perform tasks needed and assigned that relate to the maintenance and cleanliness of the buildings and grounds.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Available on scheduled work days and hours.
  2. Ability to adjust schedule, days or hours to cover events if needed.
  3. Clean, sanitize and stock supplies in restrooms and classrooms.
  4. Clean areas, dust, sanitize, clean glass windows & doors, sweep, mop, vacuum, clean blinds, and stock supplies.
  5. Empty trash and remove recycling materials.
  6. Dust furniture, pictures, vents, and walls.
  7. Drive company vehicles to other sites to deliver supplies or to work.
  8. Set-up of; classrooms, offices, etc., for various classes and activities on campus.
  9. Performing other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Custodians.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Assisting in the performance of whatever tasks are necessary in the maintenance of the buildings & grounds during inclement weather and/or conditions.
  2. On call 24/7. Must be willing to work when needed, this may include weekends and holidays.
CONSULTING TASKS
1.   Assist the Supervisor with special projects.
2.   Assist the Supervisor in achieving departmental goals.
3.   Assist the Supervisor in maintaining the safety of the campus.        
4.   Assisting, where needed, in the movement and installation of equipment, office furnishings, lights, etc.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 
  1. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  2. Ability to work well under the pressure of deadlines required.
  3. Ability to work well with minimal supervision preferred.
  4. Ability to work well with individuals with various abilities and backgrounds.
  5. Ability to learn tasks that relate to the campus buildings and grounds.
  6. Ability to take care of customer service requests and undesirable tasks on short notice, in a professional manner.
  7. Must be able to use floor care equipment, buffers, extractors and auto scrubbers.
  8. Must be able to read and understand written directions for the mixing, dilution, and use of hazardous chemicals.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. At least six (6) months experience in general custodial work required.
  3. At least (6) months floor care experience in the operation of equipment & use of chemicals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit.  Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift items.  The employee is directly responsible for safety, wellbeing, and work output.
 
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
 
 
  1. Physical ability sufficient to operate cleaning equipment and assist in function set-ups.
  2. Physical ability to push and or pull carts.
  3. Physically able to lift and recycling custodial supplies and put trash into truck and/or compactor bins.
  4. Physical able to work in extreme temperature ranges.
  5. Visually able to recognize areas that require cleaning and clean with attention to detail.
  6. Hearing ability sufficient to notice alarms and mechanical malfunctions.
 
All applicants tentatively selected for this position at Kansas City Kansas Community College will be required to submit to and successfully complete a physical examination and criminal background check prior to appointment.  Applicants will also be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal or prohibited drug use.  Appointment to the position is contingent upon negative drug test results.
 
SALARY:           $25,760.78, plus fringe benefits          
 
HOURS:             Monday through Thursday, 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Saturday, 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

                          Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 9:00 p.m. -5:30 a.m., Friday 3:00 p.m.- 11:00 p.m.
