Reporting directly to the Dean of Student Services, the Director of Student Activities will be responsible for:


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Supervising and managing the overall operation of the Student Activities program on the KCKCC campus.  Significant expertise in developing co-curricular and extra-curricular programs, legal issues in higher education, managing multiple budgets, advising student leaders and advisers, promoting campus activities to all constituents, and assessing the ongoing needs of a very diverse population of students on the KCKCC campus.  Examples of programs include:
  • Advising Student Executive Board, Student Senate and Program Activities Board
  • Assisting students in the development and organization of approximately twenty (20) diverse student clubs and organizations, with future expansion of clubs and organizations to thirty (30).
  • Monitoring the ongoing changes and modifications to the Student Senate By-Laws and Constitution.
  • Implementing ongoing student leadership seminars and workshops for emerging and experienced leaders, as well as student organization advisors.
  • Conducting needs assessment of student extra-curricular interests to measure impact of the Student Activities Program on persistence, retention, effective transfer, and timely graduation from KCKCC Associates and Certificate Programs.
  • Creating and monitoring a student leadership co-curricular transcript to provide students and other parties with a permanent record of non-academic achievements for future employability.
  • Supervising the student fees budget process for Student Senate as well as all campus clubs and organizations.  Approximately annual budget of on hundred thousand dollars, ($100,000).
  • Serving as the campus agent for signing all entertainment contracts in conjunction with Program Activities Board, and College Legal Counsel as necessary.
  • Managing, supervising, and maintaining appropriate behavior in game Room as well as Student Center Lounge.
  • Administering the campus bulletin board policy, and assisting with marketing.
  • Assisting Athletic Department in promoting school spirit and participation/ attendance at athletic events.  Lead all “Blue Crew” efforts.
  • Assisting Athletic Department in developing all-campus intramural program to expand use of athletic facilities for non-scholarship athletes.
  • Developing programs for Student Veterans through programming and support.
  1. Supervising clerical staff and student employees.
  2. Continually developing new and innovative activities and programs for the general student body, through professional associations, such as the National Association or Campus Activates and other groups.
  3. Implement programs and activities at the Technical Education Center and Leavenworth Center.
  4. Maintaining reports and payments for the College’s Music Licenses for all-campus musical performances performed by the Jazz Band, Concert Choir and visiting musical performers.
  5. Establishing a “KCKCC Citizenship Campaign” by 1) implementing programs and lectures focusing on the responsibilities of citizenship on our campus and in our society, 2) collaborating with applicable academic departments who provide courses on topics related to government, political science, and citizenship, and, 3) coordinating voter registration process for campus as an official voter registration site for the State of Kansas.
  6. Providing economic opportunities for students to attend local cultural and entertainment venues, such as discount tickets to performances at the Sprint Center, The Nelson Gallery of Art, The Lyric Theatre, The Negro League Baseball Museum, The Tea Bones Semi-Professional Baseball League, The Supporting Kansas City Professional Soccer Club, The Kansas City Chiefs, The Kansas City Royals, Worlds of Fun Theme Park and the Schlitterbahn Theme Park.
  7. Coordinating all aspects of multiple Graduation Ceremonies in conjunction with various other campus offices.  Providing essential leadership for these major campus events.
  8. Coordinating and/or collaborating in the implementation of annual on and off-campus events as The Candlelighting Ceremony, The KCKCC Alumni Weekend, The Presidents Holiday Reception, The Welcome Back Bash, The End-Of-The Year Bash, Jazz By The Lake, BIZFEST, The Annual Wyandotte County Ethnic Festival, and the various events commemorating African American and Latino History Months.
  9. Recruiting and coaching students for Academic Excellence Challenge Team.
  10. Performing other duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Services.

Supervise secretary and student workers.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
 
  1. Must have technology skills including Microsoft Office and social media.
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  3. Excellent organizational and time management skills with an emphasis on detail and planning programs, events.
  4. Superior interpersonal skills which facilitate working with individuals of various abilities and capabilities, from various ethnic, cultural and age groups on a consistent basis.
  5. Must have an understanding of the urban, comprehensive community college philosophy.
  6. Ability to work with minimum supervision. Ability to generate new ideas independently; must be a self-starter.
  7. Individual and group counseling experiences preferred.
  8. Ability to make group presentations and public appearances to represent the college.
  9. Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, administration and the general public.
  10. Ability to organize and supervise effectively.
  11. Must be able to work under the pressures of deadlines, stress and multiple tasks.
  
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  1. Minimum of two years’ experience in the field of student activities or a related area at the collegiate level is required.
  2. Minimum of two years supervisory experience required.
  3. Master’s degree required in College Student Personnel, Educational Administration or related field required. Leadership experience working with professional organizations in the field of campus activities preferred.

The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other college faculty, staff and students.
 
SALARY:             $61,098.52 / plus fringe benefits
