CLINICAL LAB ASSISTANT – MEDICAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM

The Medical Assistant Program Lab Assistant is responsible to the faculty member assigned to the given course, the Medical Assistant Program Coordinator/Director and to the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health for all matters pertaining to the development and implementation of the program, the facilitation of the teaching/learning process, and the supervision of students.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Planning and organization of classrooms, and labs
    • Assist the faculty member with clinical lab skills
  • Selection of appropriate instructional strategies and procedures
  • Maintain equipment in instructional areas
    • Recommend new items for the program as needed
  • Evaluation of student progress as related to learning objectives
    • Perform psychomotor skill evaluations
    • Complete and maintain appropriate student records
  • Participate in program evaluation and maintenance of educational and professional standards including:
    • Program accreditation
    • Program Advisory Committee meetings, staff meetings, Division meetings, and other college activities as required
    • Attend classes, workshops, seminars, and college in-services for professional development
  • Exhibits positive human relations skills
  • Maintains an environment which is conducive to learning with particular attention to safety practices, good housekeeping and student behavior
  • Collaborate with the following College employees:
    • Program colleague instructors
    • Designated Division Administrative Assistant
CONSULTING TASKS
  • Discuss program issues with the Program Coordinator/Director, Full-Time Medical Assistant Faculty, Adjunct Faculty and/or the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health as needed
  • Consult with College employees in other areas as needed
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 
  • Knowledge of Medical Assistant profession and practice including but not limited to:
    • Vitals Assessment
    • Physical Exam
    • Surgical Procedures
    • Electrocardiography
    • Phlebotomy
    • Pharmacology
    • CLIA Waived testing
    • Personal Protective Equipment/Safety Practices
    • Patient Records, and/or Electronic Health Records
  • Knowledge of learning processes, curriculum design, test construction, teaching methodology, assessment of student achievement and psychomotor skill evaluation
  • Ability to work effectively with administration, faculty, and students
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum of a Diploma/Certificate in Medical Assisting, Associate degree or higher preferred.
  • Instruction in educational theory and techniques which may include college courses, seminars, or in-service education
  • Credentialed as a Medical Assistant by a credentialing organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (CMA, RMA, or CCMA) Required.
  • Medical Assistant work experience in clinical and/or business functions preferred
  • Teaching experience preferred

COMPENSATION:      Commensurate with education and experience per the Master Contract.
