PUBLIC INFORMATION SUPERVISOR

The Public Information Supervisor shall be responsible to the Director of College Relations for the preparation and distribution of public information to enhance the communication of the College’s mission to the public.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Presents news releases and feature story ideas to the Director of College Relations.
  2. Actively searches out information for news releases and feature stories that aid in the communication of the College’s mission.
  3. Prepares weekly newsletter, “On Campus”.
  4. Working with the Director of College Relations prepares “Alumni & Friends.” publication.
  5. Maintains a tracking system for placement of news releases in local and area newspapers.
  6. Keeps information on campus marquees current and pertinent.
  7. Takes photographs of College events as necessary.
  8. Disseminates news releases and photo s to local and are media.
  9. Develops and maintains social media sites for College Relations.
  10. Must be willing to cover campus events during evenings and weekends when necessary.
  11. Develops and maintains working relationships with all media.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of College Relations.
 
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIE

CONSULTING TASKS
  1. Assists Director of College Relations in writing articles for various publications and social media sites.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  1. Possess working knowledge of all media, i.e. social media, print, video, and audio in terms of needs, deadlines, requirements, etc.
  2. Familiarity with local and area media outlets.
  3. Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills
  4. Must be able to function effectively and professionally under the pressure of deadlines.
  5. Must be able to work well with a variety of people
  6. Must be a self-starter
  7. Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  8. Must be familiar with and have experience with photography
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Mass Communications or Public Relations required.
  2. Must have two (2) years’ experience in public relations or as a reporter
  3. Must possess an appreciation for the community college philosophy.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
 
SALARY:             $34,149.92/yearly, plus fringe benefits
(If a current KCKCC employee is selected for this position, consideration will be given to his/her current salary.)
