DEAN OF NURSING & ALLIED HEALTH

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Academics and Student Services of the College, the Dean of Nursing & Allied Health will be responsible for the sound management of the various disciplines of the Nursing and Allied Health Divisions.  Responsibilities will include:
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Recruit, support, mentor and retain quality faculty.
  2. Review applications for all teaching and staff positions in the Division.
  3. Form interview committees in accordance with KCKCC policy and practice.
  4. Recommends all faculty for employment and retention annually (no later than February 1st for retention) to the Vice President. 
    -  Evaluate full-time faculty as required in the Master Faculty Contract and forwarding results to the Human  Resources Office.
  5. Evaluate adjunct faculty as required but at least once in the first year. Results will be filed in the division office.
  6. Evaluate all Division staff annually and forward results to the Human Resources Office.
  7. Support and mentor faculty in student recruitment and retention activities.
  8. Maintain the current division hard copy syllabi files in the Division office and the virtual syllabi files on the KCKCC web page.
  9. Schedule faculty for participation in enrollment activities.
  10. Recommend the class schedule to the Vice President of Academics and Student Services.
  11. Recommend program continuation and/or discontinuation to the Vice President of Academics and Student Services by January 1st.
  12. Vision and long-range planning to motivate and support students, faculty, and staff in learning endeavors.
  13. Write grants that support the mission and vision of Kansas City Kansas Community College.
  14. Mentor and support faculty in writing grants that support the mission and vision of the College.
  15. Promote the Division through the release of information to the College’s Public Relations Department.
  16. Serve on college committees as assigned by the Vice President of Academics and Student Services.
  17. Assure that all Higher Learning Commission Accreditation Standards and other outside accrediting agency Standards are followed and upheld.
  18. Report faculty and staff absences to Human Resources.
  19. Ensure compliance with college policies and procedures.
  20. Participate in the College’s grievance procedure involving students and faculty.
  21. Manage Division fiscal resources.
  22. Prepare the Division budget annually by the date required by the Finance Division.
  23. Create a collaborative, transformational learning environment and culture in the Division.
  24. Participate in professional development learning activities and encouraging faculty and staff from the Division to participate in professional development learning activities.
  25. Provide leadership in In-Service Learning activities for the Division.
  26. Integrate new technology into all learning processes within the Division.
  27. Adhere to FERPA guidelines and maintaining confidentiality in dealing with employee and student records and other business information.
 
CONSULTING TASKS
  1. Maintaining computer hardware and software inventories.
  2. Representing Kansas City Kansas Community College in community and other educational arenas.
  3. Working with the Dean of Business and Continuing Education to develop continuing education course offerings.
  4. Working with the Online Specialist to develop online course offerings.
  5. Keeping current on new technology development and the importance to the learning process.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Supervise, support, and mentor faculty in student academic advising and reporting academic assessment progress to the Vice President of Academics and Student Services.
  2. Supervise and mentor faculty in construction of all Div. syllabi to meet Kansas Board of Regents criteria.
  3. Supervise and mentor faculty in the process of updating of all Division syllabi to meet Kansas Board of Regents criteria.
  4. Supervise all Kansas Board of Regents reports as related to the Division and supplying the reports to the Vice President of Academics and Student Services.
  5. Supervise the collection of data in the Division for the State of Kansas Community College Core Indicators and reporting the data collected to the Vice President of Academics and Student Services.
  6. Supervise the selection process of textbooks and providing textbook information to the Kansas City Kansas Community College Bookstore Manager by the set deadlines.
  7. Supervise the selection process of computer software and equipment needed for all classes within the Division and providing ordering information to the Kansas City Kansas Community College Dean of Information Services by the set deadlines.
  8. Supervise and mentoring faculty in the initiation and facilitation of new, high quality academic and career programs.
  9. Supervise the academic and career program review process as outlined by the Kansas Board of Regents and College and submit the appropriate review annually.
  10. Supervise and mentor faculty in the development of new curricula.
  11. Supervise the annual strategic planning process for the Division in consort with the strategic planning process and report on the progress of the plan to the Vice President of Academics and Student Services.
  12. Supervise faculty in the catalog and website proofreading and revision process annually.
  13. Supervise Division schedule creation, proofreading, and revision process and deadlines.
  14. Supervise and maintain facilities assigned to the Division.
  15. Supervise the Division in participation in the High School partnership and dual enrollment program, including establishment of new class offerings.
  16. Supervise accreditation and/or re-accreditation applications for programs within the Division.

  8. Must understand program accreditation.

  10. Must be experienced with current technology and classroom application of current technology.
  11. Must be willing to lead the Division toward innovative use of current technology in the learning process.
  12. Must possess a working knowledge of a collective bargaining environment.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  1. Doctorate degree from an accredited institution in one of the Nursing or Allied Health disciplines required.
  2. Minimum of five years’ experience working in institutions of higher education required.  Community college experience preferred.
  3. Classroom teaching experience required.
