JOB PURPOSE:
Kansas City Kansas Community College is currently searching for Adjunct faculty for the Spring 2019 Semester. As an adjunct professor your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, teaching courses in sociology, preparing lesson plans, lecturing and facilitating classroom discussion, writing exams and quizzes, adhering to established course outcomes, grading assignments and responding to students inquiries in a timely manner, and by engaging students in critical thinking and problem-solving activities. This individual will also be responsible for timely submission of reports and for administering all exams to include final exams. This single posting will be used to fill two (2) Adjunct Faculty- Sociology positions.
 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design courses to meet learning outcomes, and promote students active participation.
  • Create an effective learning environment that fosters student’s intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies.
  • Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Social and Behavioral Sciences & Public Services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Evidence of creative teaching strategies is highly desirable.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to assess students’ performance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse group of staff and students required.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s Degree or higher in the Sociology, OR
  • Master’s Degree plus 18 graduate hours in the discipline is required.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary teaching and learning management systems experience.

SALARY RANGE: $783.00 per credit hour.


WORK SCHEDULE:
Must be able to work a variable schedule/varying hours to meet operational needs on campus, at area high schools or at Pioneer Career Center. May require evening and weekend hours; as needed.
