Job Purpose: The employee relations manager reports to the chief human resources officer for oversight of building and sustaining positive work relationships at KCKCC

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures compliance with all local, state and federal discrimination and employment regulations.
  • Lead internal investigations in compliance and employee-related matters, recommend solutions and assist with facilitation of resolution.
  • Assist with Title IX investigation involving employees. 
  • Monitor complaint and grievance process and adherence to timelines.
  • Provides advice and counsel to managers regarding personnel practices, policies and employment laws.
  • Coach employees and managers on work-related issues and make recommendations to help resolve complex and unique employment issues.
  • Maintain records of grievance actions, formal investigations and complaints.
  • Conduct & monitor exit interviews to determine trends; make recommendations based on outcomes.
  • Develop and manage programs for employee recognition and appreciation.
  • Assist the Chief Human Resources Officer with reviewing existing policies and procedures and recommend new &/or revised policies & procedures, as necessary.
  • Implement, develop and manage compliance training programs.
  • Gather information on employees’ perceptions that affect employee morale, motivation, & efficiency.
  • Ensure performance evaluations are conducted in a timely manner.
  • Manage the unemployment claim process and represent the college at unemployment hearings as necessary.
  • Develop & conduct supervisor training with chief human resources officer and staff development specialist to foster positive attitudes towards college goal/mission and to foster effective employee relations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations, especially to employment, employee relations and Title IX.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships and establish credibility with all levels of employee in the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Ability to effectively present data analyzes to a designated target audience.
  • Strong analytical skills and detail oriented. 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively negotiate and resolve conflict.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate successfully with ambiguity, multiple priorities and a changing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment to successfully initiate and carry projects to completion.
  • Ability to anticipate and assess potential risk and problems
  • Ability to solve complex problems by using best practices and alternative methods. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, business administration, industrial organizational psychology or closely related field required.
  • Three (3) or more years of professional level Human Resource experience including employee/labor relations. 
  • Two years of supervisory experience preferred
  • SPHR/PHR or SHRM-SCP/SHRM-CP preferred

SALARY:                 $55,500 – $67,500
