JOB PURPOSE
The Coordinator works with the Director of Military and Veteran Student Services in the administration of all programs and services for KCKCC military-affiliated students. Specifically, the Coordinator works collaboratively with other KCKCC Faculty and Staff, and external constituencies, on initiatives for KCKCC Military and Veteran Students.  The Coordinator serves as a Certifying Official and provides expertise in VA educational benefits while working with all Military and Veteran students attending KCKCC.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the front line staff member for serving all military and veterans students in the KC Metro, online, and all KCKCC locations. 
  • Serve as a VA Certifying Official to ensure proper and timely submission of VA certifications for all KCKCC Military and Veteran students.
  • Collaborate with Admissions Representatives, Student Success staff and other faculty and staff on the provision of services for all KCKCC students who are service-connected; military members, Veteran, Military Dependents, or other groups.
  • Serve as the advisor to the Student Veterans of America organization with outreach and programs for student veterans. 
  • Design and promote programs designed to enrich KCKCC’s military population through student networking and career opportunities.
  • Prepare and present educational classes on VA educational benefits to Advising, admissions, and other departments as requested.
  • Develop surveys for Military and Veteran students to collect valuable feedback on how KCKCC can better serve its military population.
  • Serve as resource and reference for all military and veteran-related questions from KCKCC affiliated individuals and non-KCKCC affiliated individuals.
  • Collaborate with Career Development team to support all military and veteran students with career fairs and events centered on military and veteran students.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with local, state, and federal agencies and entities that serve Veterans and or Military members.
  • Represent KCKCC with military/academic organizations, such as NAIMES, CCME, DODWW, NAVPA, AVECO, and the state ACME.
  • Correspond by email and phone with military and veteran student promptly. 
  • Develop content and maintain presence on KCKCC Veteran’s Facebook page. 
  • Work with Veterans Affairs on all issues that effect a student’s certification status. 
  • Supervise the Student Staff to include training, scheduling and monthly counseling. 

 

CONSULTING TASKS

  • Assists military and veteran students in the completion of VA paperwork needed for military evaluation for military credit.
  • Collaborates with Business Office regarding the receipt and payments of veteran’s benefits.
  • Abides with the college’s compliance with FERPA and other federal regulations.
  • Assists students by providing information about KCKCC payment options and processes.
  • Assists and coordinates with students to complete the KCKCC admissions, advising and enrollment processes.
  • Refers students to appropriate KCKCC contacts for specific assistance.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises, trains, develops and evaluates all center student employees.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook e-mail, and internet.
  • Ability to work well with individuals of diverse cultural and educational backgrounds and age groups.
  • Must be able to handle difficult situations with diplomacy.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of all matters and information.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and to initiate and work on projects independently.
  • Capacity to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Willingness to work overtime hours during enrollment peak times.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience maintaining and working with computer or web-based database.

PREFERRED QUALIFICAITONS

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in veteran’s education benefits position preferred.
  • Prior military service preferred.

SALARY:   $40,000- $45,000 annually, competitive benefit package is included.
 

WORK SCHEDULE:

Must be able to work a variable schedule/varying hours to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours; as needed.
