Job Purpose: Classroom and Behind the wheel instruction for Drivers Ed

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Driver Education Instructor will conduct classroom and/or on-the-road instruction consistent with the Kansas (DMV) requirements and standards, in order to prepare new student drivers for successful licensure. The Driver Education Instructor will prepare and deliver an 8-hour classroom instructional program for students, plus 4-6 driving lessons with each student. Duties include recordkeeping for tracking all aspects of each student's driver education training and related communications and reporting to students, parents, school management personnel, and the DMV. The Driver Education Instructor will provide behind-the-wheel training that conforms with DMV requirements. The Instructor performs professional services requiring excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, computer data entry, recordkeeping, and working directly with faculty, students, parents, the general public and other school personnel. The Driver Education Instructor creates an environment that is conducive to serving students while meeting the requirements of federal, state and local mandates. The Driver Education Instructor is responsible for maintaining impeccable safety standards. Additional responsibilities include maintaining efficient and effective operations of all areas under his/her direction and control. The Driver Education Instructor performs varied and responsible duties requiring a familiarity with school operations, a thorough understanding of DMV regulations and the exercise of judgment and initiative in completing tasks.
  • KCKCC is seeking Drivers Ed instructors who are available to teach classroom and behind the wheel drive lessons this fall/winter, or instructors who may be interested in teaching only a few sections per year or summer only,

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • The Driver Education Instructor must be a Kansas certified instructor and possess a valid Kansas driver license.
  • A Driver Education endorsement on the teaching certificate or an endorsement issued by the Kansas Department of Education is required.
  • A background check is a condition for employment at KCKCC as a Driver Education Instructor.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a satisfactory MVR (motor vehicle record) throughout employment.
  • Annual verification of driver's license and MVR will be conducted.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of teaching experience
  • Instructors who have experience teaching disabled students needing hand controls
  • Instructors who currently or previously taught in K-12
  • Instructors who have experience working with students with disabilities (learning and/or physical)
  • Previous successful professional experience in areas such as law enforcement, paramedic, fire fighting, teaching, coaching, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit.  Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift items.  The employee is directly responsible for safety, wellbeing, and work output.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

 

SALARY:                 $ 25.00 an hour plus 150.00 per student for driving
