Student Financial Aid Office

This is a full-time, front-line position that is the first point of contact for persons seeking assistance in the Student Financial Aid Office. This individual will report directly to the Director of Student Financial Aid and will work with all professional staff in the office.  The technical assistant will accept and review paperwork that is presented at the front counter and then post documents to the KCKCC financial aid administrative computer system.   The technical assistant will also spend part of each day away from the front counter to perform verification and student loan data entry.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Greet students/faculty/staff/public who enter the office and offer assistance.
  2. Assess the needs of the walk-in public by answering general financial aid questions and/or referring specific concerns to other professional office staff.
  3. Report status of student’s aid application to the student upon request.
  4. Accept requested documents and new applications from students, checking for completeness.
  5. Post documents to computer system.
  6. Manage responses to general office e-mail box.
  7. Organize documents into scan batches and scan documents into document imaging system.
  8. Distribute financial aid applications and publications to the public.
  9. Respond promptly to student telephone calls and e-mail inquiries.
  10. Request missing or incomplete documents from students as needed.
  11. Assist in preparing office bulk mailings.
  12. Access, review and respond as needed to electronic mail box.
  13. Manage telephone voice mailbox.
  14. Attend on and off campus financial aid training as recommended by supervisor.
  15. Become knowledgeable of current federal, state and institutional regulations governing financial aid.
  16. Represent the Student Financial Aid Office at various campus and public events.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 
  1. Excellent customer relation skills required.
  2. Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a demanding environment, supporting department goals.
  3. Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse campus community in a courteous and professional manner necessary.
  4. Ability to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with staff, faculty, students and public.
  5. Ability to maintain student confidentially in accordance with FERPA.
  6. Must possess accurate keyboarding skills and be able to efficiently and accurately enter data.
  7. Proficiency in operating a computer and Microsoft Windows operating system software.
  8. Familiarity with scanning, storage and retrieval of documents preferred.
  9. Ability to work with minimal supervision in cooperation with other office staff.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  1. High school diploma or equivalent required: Associate’s Degree preferred.
  2. Minimum of two years of previous employment in a general public customer service position.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.  The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
 
SALARY:              $25,113.49 per year/plus Fringe Benefits
