FULL TIME HISTORY INSTRUCTOR

Kansas City Kansas Community College is seeking applicants for a fulltime, tenure-track position in History, beginning in August, 2015.  The college is particularly interested in innovative instructors who value student growth and success as top priorities.  The successful candidate will be expected to commit fully to departmental, institutional, and community service as well as participate in ongoing professional development.  This position reports directly to the Dean of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Teach a minimum of 15 hours per semester in various history and related survey courses, such as Western and/or World Civilization.
  2. Demonstrate an interest in active instructional approaches to accommodate a variety of learning styles.
  3. Participate in curriculum creation, revision, and assessment initiatives to enhance program effectiveness.
  4. Utilize technology in the classroom; may include online and/or blended delivery systems.
  5. Demonstrate ongoing scholarship and professional development while sustaining desirable classroom results.
  6. Serve on division, campus, and professional committees as appropriate or engage in other appropriate activities.
  7. Collaborate fully with students, faculty, administrators, professional, and community humanities organizations.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Enhance students' education through arranging field experiences, visiting scholars, and other activities.
  2. Promote departmental faculty and student research and writing.
  3. Perform other tasks as assigned.
CONSULTING TASKS
 
  1. Consult with students, faculty, staff, and administrators in support of department, division, and college-wide initiatives.
 SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. None
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 
  1. College-level teaching experience (3 - 5 years minimum) required; experience with students at the community college level preferred.
  2. Demonstrated experience teaching traditional and nontraditional college students with a wide variety of learning styles.
  3. Documented success teaching broad, survey courses appropriate to lower division students.
  4. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills required.
  5. Ability to teach Western and/or World Civilization is strongly preferred.
  6. Willingness to work in collaborative projects using history in conjunction with other disciplines to educate and inspire students and local residents.
  7. Demonstrated record of research, writing, and publication in an area complementing present faculty is strongly preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 
  1. Master's degree in History is required; doctoral degree strongly preferred.
  2. Significant graduate coursework in Western and/or World Civilization preferred.

SALARY:       Commensurate with education and experience per the Faculty’s Master Contract
