LAB ASSISTANT – CULINARY ARTS

The KCKCC Technical Education Center is seeking a part-time lab assistant in the Culinary Arts program.  The Assistant shall work with and assist the Culinary Arts Instructor in the following areas:
 
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teaches material from approved curriculum and develops daily lesson plans to include instructional aides.
  • Responsible for product purchasing, receiving and inventory.  Includes going to various stores to make purchases for the labs.
  • Make copies, file, and track purchases via spreadsheets.
  • Motivates students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process.
  • Assist students with tasks performed in the lab and classroom.
  • Completes professional development and in-service activities in accordance with college standards.
  • Instructs students in laboratory safety procedures if applicable.
  • Maintains classroom control when main instructor is out of building or in meetings.
  • Observe and document student performance of tasks assigned by the program instructors.
  • Ensure safety practices are followed by students.
  • Set up labs for different courses.
  • Maintain records of repair orders for proper accountability of parts and materials.
  • Maintain control of college owned specialty tools for use by students.
  • Enforcing all rules and regulations, per the college’s guidelines and other enforcement agencies that govern student practices of KCKCC.
  • Being responsible for the transportation of students during field trips per the College’s policies and guidelines.
  • Traveling with students to off campus activities.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the program instructor.
  • Work schedule will be part-time, 29 or less hours per week.
 
 
CONSULTING TASKS
May consult with Professional Cooking faculty and students.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Minimum 1 year of food service experience or training in Culinary Arts or related field.
  • Work and interact well with diverse populations.
  • Practice and demonstrate proper safety and sanitation knowledge/practices.
  • Handle a wide range of duties including: ordering, inventory, lab monitoring, prep work. etc.
  • Must be able to read and prepare recipes.
  • Knowledge of basic office skills such as computer usage and programs, filing, copying, etc.
  • Able to handle a classroom and lab setting independently.
  • Able to help train students for a career in the food service industry under the guidance of an educator.
  • Applicant must be  able to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis
 
 
EDUCATION
 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Current ServSafe certification or must complete certification within 90 days of employment.

SALARY:        $22.06 per hour
