DIRECTOR OF WEB SERVICES – INFORMATION SERVICES

Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, the Director of Web Services provides campus-wide management of the public web presence and Intranet, with ongoing attention to quality, innovation, and usability. Responsible for the on-going technical development of Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) Web site as an information and marketing resource for students, staff, faculty, parents, prospective students and others interested in the college. Manages the look-and-feel of the site, and works with campus constituencies to develop and maintain their portions of the Web site through the use of HTML editors and Content Management applications.
 
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Develop and maintain all Web applications, forms, and Web services for faculty, staff, students, and prospective students.
  • Work with the appropriate personnel to develop style standards and manage KCKCC Web site templates to adhere to those standards.
  • Coordinate with Chief Information Officer and other departments in establishing the website as a marketing tool for KCKCC.
  • Communicate style standards, policies, guidelines, and expectations with content contributors; provide training on Web applications and Content Management applications when necessary.
  • Manage web and Intranet servers’ security and permissions to files, databases, folders, and applications.
  • Work with Chief Information Officer and Directors of Information Services division to manage all Web and portal servers’ software, upgrades and additions.
  • Recommend policies and guidelines regarding use of any server utilizing Web server applications to committees as needed.
  • Monitor Web site traffic and report data to the appropriate committees.
  • Monitor and resolve all Web server and Web site errors.
  • Keep abreast of current Web technology and related areas, especially in higher education, and advise the Chief Information Officer on relevant information.
  • Use Help Desk software to log and track calls related to any of the above activities.

  • Supervises the work and development of Web Services staff.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to the mission, values, and goals of Kansas City Kansas Community College.
  • Must understand and endorse the philosophy of the comprehensive, urban community college.
  • Dedication to open communication and ability to work with a broad constituency of end-users.
  • Strong knowledge IIS, MS-SQL, and Microsoft Access.
  • Additional skills in graphic design or desktop publishing preferred. Knowledge of college environment preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Web technologies including MS-SharePoint and browser-independent HTML, CSS, .NET platform, and JavaScript is required.
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of web standards and emerging web technologies.
  • Ability to understand user requirements and translate them into technical specifications for continuous improvement of web-based tools and services.
  • Experience in designing, producing, and maintaining web sites, including knowledge of user interface issues, information design, and visual design.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  • Bachelor's degree and experience in production and maintenance of advanced Web sites.
  • Ability to work with pre-existing code and create new code comfortably in Integrated Development Environments.
  • Experience supporting the development of digital content for teaching, learning, and research.
  • Experience and background in the community college environment is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years practical experience in developing and maintaining web services.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.

SALARY:           $65,000.00/year plus fringe benefits
