STUDENT FINANCIAL AID ELIGIBILITY SPECIALIST

 

The Student Financial Aid Eligibility Specialist reports directly to the Director of Student Financial Aid. This is a full-time position that is primarily responsible for monitoring eligibility for federal student aid by requesting and reviewing documentation from students as requested from the U.S. Department of Education. Additionally, this position requires assisting the Verification Coordinator as needed.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Manages students identified by the U.S. Department of Education as having Unusual Enrollment History (UEH)
  • Monitors the Lifetime Eligibility Used (LEU) for Federal Pell Grant recipients
  • Monitors and reports the verification of identity and high school completion for selected students
  • Reviews citizenship documentation to determine federal aid eligibility
  • Reviews selective service issues to determine federal aid eligibility
  • Monitors transfer student for federal aid eligibility
  • Access, review and respond as needed to e-mail
  • Answers phone and manage voicemail in a timely manner
  • Assist students and public at front counter when needed
  • Become knowledgeable of current federal, state and institutional regulations governing financial aid

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Assists with the verification of student files during peak volume
  • Attend on and off campus financial aid training as recommended by supervisor
  • Represent the Student Financial Aid Office at campus and public events as requested
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Must be available for some travel and be able to work evening and weekend hours when required

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

 

  • Associates Degree required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Package (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Microsoft Publisher), and a database system
  • Minimum of two years of previous employment in a financial aid/business office field which includes both telephone and face-to face contact with customers
  • Must have experience in dealing with federal and state regulations
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse campus community in a courteous and professional manner necessary
  • Ability to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with staff, faculty, students and public
  • Ability to maintain confidentially in accordance with FERPA
  • Must possess accurate keyboarding skills and be able to efficiently and accurately enter data
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Requires attention to detail and investigation skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a demanding environment, supporting department goals

 

 

POSITION TYPE: Full-time

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
 

SALARY: $15.63/hour ($32,500.00/year) - $16.83/hour ($35.000.00/year)
