ACADEMIC NURSING/ALLIED HEALTH ADVISOR

The Academic Nursing/Allied Health Advisor shall be responsible to the Director of Nursing for advising and referring students.
 
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Developing a caring relationship with advisees.
  2. Helping students clarify and develop realistic educational/career plans.
  3. Assisting students in planning an academic program consistent with their abilities and interests.
  4. Monitoring student progress toward educational/career goals.
  5. Discussing and reinforcing linkages and relationships between instructional program and occupation/careers.
  6. Interpreting and providing rationale for academic policies, procedures and requirements.
  7. Approving designated educational transactions (e.g. schedule, drop and adds, withdrawls, change of major, waivers, graduation requirements).
  8. Maintaining advising file for each advisee.
  9. Referring students when academic, attitudinal, attendance or other personal problems require intervention by other campus professionals.
  10. Informing students of the nature of the advisor/advisee relationship.
  11. Requesting assignment of advisee to another advisor if necessary.
  12. Assisting advisees in identifying internship, further educational opportunities.
  13. Informing students of special services available to them for remediation, academic assistance and other needs.
  14. Participate in recruitment activities
 
CONSULTING TASKS
 
  1. Consulting with students and faculty with regard to Nursing and Allied Health/Respiratory Education.
  2. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. None.
  
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
 
  1. Must possess a familiarity with nursing/allied health curriculum.
  2. Strong written and oral communication skills.
  3. Demonstrate ability to work effectively with faculty, advising, staff and administrators, as well as community groups.
  4. Must possess knowledge of local education and career options.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing/Allied Health fields required: Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Minimum of one year experience in post-secondary education institution.
 
SALARY:                   $35,049.00/year plus fringe benefits
