JOB PURPOSE:
Kansas City Kansas Community College is seeking a full-time developmental reading faculty to teach developmental reading courses, starting in August 12, 2019. 


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Faculty duties include classroom instruction, assessment, curriculum development, professional inquiry/collaboration, committee work, and engaging with instructional technology.
  • Faculty teaching load and related duties assigned as outlined by the Master Contract.
  • Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such as face-to-face, online, hybrid and/or blended formats during days, evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to provide foundational, college-level literacy instruction and support to students from diverse backgrounds and/or cultures.
  • Ability to utilize multiple methods of instruction, assessment, and technology to engage students in 21st century literacy tasks with a focus on critical reading and thinking skills.
  • Demonstrate support for cross-curricular instruction and contextualization efforts with other courses and departments.
  • Build positive relationships with students and all college stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional development and active engagement in current trends and research in developmental education.
  • Demonstrate evidence of innovative and responsive teaching methodologies to increase student achievement and retention.
  • Possess knowledge of adult learning theories and application in developmental education.
  • Ability to differentiate and individualize literacy instruction.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EDUCATION:

  • Master’s degree in reading, literacy, or related field. Graduate level coursework must include 18 credit hours in reading education courses.
  • Experience with diverse populations of students, including students with disabilities, English language learners, and/or first-generation college students.
  • Teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level is required.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EDUCATION:

  • Educational Specialist’s or other terminal degree in reading education.
  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching online or in blended/hybrid formats.

SALARY RANGE: Compensation is commensurate with education and experience outlined in the collective bargaining contract.

 

WORK SCHEDULE: Must be able to work variable schedule/hours to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours. Your appointment is contingent on sufficient enrollments, or on program and scheduling changes.
