FULL-TIME HEAD COACH, MEN’S BASKETBALL

Reporting directly to the Director of Athletics, the Head Coach of Men’s Basketball shall be responsible for the following:

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Provide supervision and coaching in intercollegiate competition in the capacity of Head Coach in a sport.
  2. Monitor the academic progress of team members, and arranges for appropriate guidance and/or assistance to contribute to the academic success of student athletes.
  3. Recruit student athletes for the College teams with a focus on our service district area.
  4. Explore fundraising opportunities for athletic scholarships.
  5. Develop and arrange schedules for men’s basketball.
  6. Teach skills and strategies to student athletes in practice, for use in intercollegiate competition.
  7. Responsible for evaluating, developing schedules of work, monitoring of the assistant coaches or student employees or assigned athletic workers.
  8. Assist with the supervision of the athletic facilities when used by outside groups as well as KCKCC groups.
  9. Direct and control the maintenance of appropriate team conduct during competition, travel, practice, college events and at any other times when the team is representing the College.
  10. Maintain and control equipment assigned for team use.
  11. Scout opponents when appropriate.
  12. Maintain appropriate records of individual and team statistics and records as required.
  13. Works with the Director of Athletics to develop, monitor and maintain budget for program.
  14. Coordinate with athletic staff to arrange for team travel arrangements within given parameters for budget and timing considerations.
  15. Develop and maintain an informational relationship with external media representatives, and provide positive support for the College's sports information efforts.
  16. Maintain awareness of and ensure personal and team compliance with all relevant College, NJCAA and KJCCC rules.
  17. May drive rental vans or vehicles to and from team activities, or arrange for qualified drivers, as appropriate. Must be able to meet and maintain College guidelines or insurance guidelines for driving rental vans or vehicles.
  18. Attend staff meetings, conference and region meetings, games, contests or college events as assigned.
  19. Teaching up to four hours per semester, if needed.
  20. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. 
CONSULTING TASKS
  1. Consult with other coaches, faculty, and parents.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Students and the Assistant Basketball Coach
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  1. Must be able to obtain a CDL to be able to transport team.
  2. Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends.
  3. Ability to communicate well, both orally and in written form.
  4. Experience in fundraising.
  5. Ability to work with individuals with varied backgrounds, abilities, and capabilities.
  6. Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the philosophy of the urban, open-door, comprehensive community college.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  1. Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Minimum of 3-5 years head coaching experience, preferably at the postsecondary level.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
  1. Visual ability sufficient to operate a motor vehicle to transport team members
  2. Physical ability to train basketball athletes
 
SALARY:                   $35,492 per year plus fringe benefits
(If a current KCKCC employee is selected for this position, consideration will be given to his/her current salary.)
