GROUNDS WORKER

Reporting directly to the Supervisor of Grounds, the Grounds Worker shall be responsible for:                
 
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Maintains all areas of the grounds, the growing of trees, grass, shrubs and flowers, including seeding, fertilizing and the application of chemicals.
  2. Maintains roads, walks, parking areas, signs, irrigation, irrigation systems and athletic fields.
  3. Maintains lake, rip rap, open ditch drainage, fences, retaining walls, benches, and bleachers.
  4. Assist in snow removal: cleaning roads, walks, parking lots and stairways.
  5. Be on call 24 hours a day, during emergencies, such as snow storms or other severe weather conditions.
  6. Maintains grounds equipment as per the Preventative Maintenance schedule.
  7. Reports any damage of facilities, grounds or grounds equipment and the needed repair to the Supervisor of Grounds.
  8. Any other duties as assigned.
 
CONSULTING TASKS
 
  1. Assist the Supervisor of Grounds with special projects.
  2. Assist the Supervisor of Grounds with set-ups and tear down of activities as needed.
  3. Assist the Supervisor of Grounds in achieving departmental goals.
  4. Assist the Supervisor of Grounds in maintaining the safety of the campus.
 
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Student workers as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 
  1. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  2. Ability to operate equipment such as: lawn mowers, weed-eaters, snow blowers and other grounds equipment.
  3. Knowledge of how to use and operate hand tools, power tools and equipment found in large facilities.
  4. Ability to work alone or as a member of a group.
  5. Ability to perform routine preventative maintenance as directed by the Supervisor of Grounds.
  6. Physical ability sufficient to work around the clock during the winter season.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. One year experience in grounds maintenance and operations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit.  Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift items.  The employee is directly responsible for safety, wellbeing, and work output.
 
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
 
  1. Must be able to frequently lift 50 lb. bags.
  2. Will be required to stand, walk, crouch, or stoop frequently.
  3. Will use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  4. Physical ability sufficient to work in extreme temperature ranges.
  5. Hearing ability sufficient to notice alarms and mechanical malfunctions.
  6. Visual ability sufficient to drive vehicles.
 
SALARY:              $26,252.15, plus Fringe Benefits
If a current KCKCC employee is selected for this position, consideration will be given to his/her current salary.
