JOB PURPOSE:
To assist the Supervisor of Student Housing with making sure residents follow the policies and procedures in Student Housing.  This single posting is used to fill six positions.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reports to the Supervisor of Student Housing.
  • Responds to resident needs within and throughout Student Housing.
  • Share the overall responsibility for the entire Complex on a rotating schedule with other RA’s.
  • Assist the Supervisor of Student Housing with move in and move out process for housing students.
  • Encourage the social and academic success of all residents through planned programs and activities.
  • Provide support and assistance to residents by responding appropriately to all crisis and emergency situations and conducting necessary follow-ups.
  • Assist residents, visitors, parents and staff regarding Student Housing policies and procedures.
  • Handle both routine and emergency maintenance requests in all areas of the Student Housing Complex.
  • Enforce all policies regarding acceptable resident behavior in compliance with the KCKCC Student Code of Conduct and Student Housing Contract and Handbook.

Consulting Task:

  • Be highly visible and have frequent/ongoing contact with residents assigned to RAs specific area and demonstrate leadership skills in dealing with both crisis and non-crisis situations.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Supervisor of Student Housing regarding all community development activities, facilities concerns, as well as resident behavior issues.
  • Serve as a representative of the College when interacting with student parents, relatives and visitors.

Advising Responsibilities:

  • Will advise students living in the KCKCC Student Housing Complex.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be a full-time KCKCC student with enrollment in no more than 15 undergraduate hours.
  • Must maintain a minimum of 2.5 KCKCC cumulative GPA and be in good standing with the College and Student Housing for the duration of their employment.
  • Must share on-duty schedule in the student housing complex nightly from 6 pm – 8 am.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Understanding and appreciation for diversity (including the ability to demonstrate responsibility and respect for others’ rights, feelings, diverse backgrounds and property.)
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Ability to relate quickly and tactfully to a variety of people, including staff, students and parents.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One (1) year work experience working with students, customer service or administrative work, ability to coordinate administrative and support functions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Twelve (12) hours of College Credit.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, and sit. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift items.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

SALARY:  
Housing accommodation in the Student Housing Complex, including all utilities and parking at no cost at an approximate value at $3570.00. Based on room availability, the housing accommodations may require for the RA to have a roommate. Stipend of $200 paid during every pay period, a total of $400 a month.

 

WORK SCHEDULE:
Must be able to work a variable schedule/varying hours to meet operational needs. Will require evening and weekend hours; as needed. Resident Assistant hours will be approximately a total of 18 hours per week, but not to exceed 20 hours per week. (This is broken down to 15 hours a week and 3 hours during peak times to help in the office or Resident Assistant on duty.) Work hours may not interfere with class schedule.
