Kansas City Kansas Community College is searching for Adjunct faculty for the Fall 2015 Semester who are creative, open to change, have a passion for learning, and are willing to promote the mission of the College.
 
The Pioneer Career Center is seeking an Adjunct Instructor to teach Building and Property Maintenance for the Fall 2015 Semester at the Pioneer Career Center . 
 
The position will consist of providing instructional and development services at all levels of building and property maintenance pursuant to the city and construction industry standards for its curriculum and certification guidelines. Various instructional strategies will be used, including traditional classroom methods, hands-on demonstrations/participation, computer/web-based instruction, and/or various combinations of approaches.
 
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Provide a positive learning atmosphere.
  2. Plan and organize class and/or shop activities. Daily performance lesson.
  3. Develop appropriate curriculum. Select appropriate materials, audio-visual aids and equipment. Using 70% hands on, 30% lecture instruction methods.
  4. Use effective instructional procedures and methods.
  5. Participate in student leadership activities, including Skills USA.
  6. Supervision of students in class and school wide.
  7. Evaluate student progress as related to learning objectives.
  8. Cooperate with the admission, counseling, and placement staff. Maintain appropriate records.
  9. Participate in advisory meetings, staff meetings, and school wide activities including program and school wide evaluation.
  10. Attend classes, workshops, and seminars as needed for professional development.
  11. Organize all aspects of building & property maintenance projects including good customer relationships, ordering and budgeting of materials, meeting deadlines and producing quality work.
  12. Meet all program requirements to maintain current program specific accreditation if available.
  13. Follow appropriate safety procedures in shop areas. Maintain equipment.
  14. Other related duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
 
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
 
No direct administrative supervision but occasional task assignment/monitoring for a lab assistant, student classroom assistant, work-study helper, or student intern.
 
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
 
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
 
  1. Knowledge of Building and municipality codes
  2. Knowledge of property maintenance codes
     
     
    WORKING CONDITIONS
     
  1. Indoor in a normal classroom and shop time as well as outdoors in either construction technology or advanced manufacturing setting. Work conditions can involve considerable exposure to temperature changes, noise, dust, or chemicals.
  2. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  3. A neat appearance and apparel appropriate to a classroom/shop environment are required.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
 
  1. Work involves the setup and operation of potentially hazardous equipment and machinery as well as the occasional lifting and moving of construction and manufacturing components and materials requiring the lifting of at least 50 pounds. Mobility within the classroom and shop are required.
  2. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision for the assembly of parts and for the avoidance of mechanical and electrical hazards.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people, including staff, students, and the public, in both written and oral mediums.
  4. The position requires the ability to read and understand technical journals and similar publications.
  5. The position requires the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Maintenance Supervision preferred
  2. Five years of directly applicable experience in Building Maintenance required
  3. Teaching experience is preferred.
 
  
SALARY:        $742.00 per credit hour
